HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread: From Here to Free Agency

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
This is the time of the year that us fans, we tend to react to every trade or rumours.

Nemec was traded - maybe we wanted him?
Tuch was traded - maybe we wanted him too?
Kyrou was traded - maybe we wanted him as well?
Pettersson has to leave - we're thinking about getting him at reduced price
Connor Zary suddenly is available - we may think he would be a fit?

But in reality, we don't want or need any of them. Let's just enjoy the surprise and unexpected players we would get. Hughes is not gonna keep the team the same way, the guy is a boss, he'll get things done. Like Hockey Hall of Gamer Goalie Carey Price would say "take a chill pill"

Zary definitely isn't a fit. He's too slow. But, yeah, only Tuch would have been helpful but not at $10.5m.

If we don't make a deal, it's because teams were trying to rip us off.

I won't be upset in the slightest. We continue to have one of the deepest prospect pools in the NHL with cost controlled assets not fully arrived. We can still be players in FA this year or next, as well as massive TDL players.

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Zharovsky - Hage - Demidov

will be a lethal top 6 in 2-3 years.

Has there honestly been an overpay yet?
I mean a bunch of picks moved, and this years drafts seems like its kind of weak.
Outside of Eklund has there been any top prospects moved?
Theres a reason teh 4th and 9th pick have been shuffled around and its probably because there isn't a lot of faith in the draft.
KH just has no dance partner and probably is caught a bit of bergevenitis and doesn't want to trade his prescious Hage/Reinbacher to actually make something happen.

Its likely a matching problem. Habs need a center. No meaningful center has moved so far.

Hoping for some magic but the reality seems like the market is dry for the habs biggest need.

For the draft picks this year, I think it’s more contextual. Florida having the 9OA was an anomaly. They were never going to keep the pick given their situation, and Ottawa also needed to move forward, they couldn’t afford to take a massive step back.

And Chicago is kind of in a terrible spot. If they don’t do anything drastic, there isn’t really an end in sight to their rebuild. They’d be stuck being mid at best for years. They're panicking.

Yes. Most of the trades have been rip offs. All the NHL players like Kyrou etc the acquiring team was ripped off.

It already exists, a player can have a NMC and a M-NTC at the same time. Once a player waive his NMC to request a trade, it falls back to the no-trade list pre-agreed upon in his M-NTC (this can also be waived if the player want to).

But at the end of the day, if you give a NMC or a Full NTC to a player, you don't get to whine if they pull a power move, because you did this.
Who between us 2 are whining?

So you like it the way it is and I would propose something different. Nothing to see here I guess.

I am fine with trading the prospects but realistically are they even going to net us a big return? Doesn't seem like it.

Ya I mean 9th for Brady is a pretty fair deal and I wouldn't call it an overpay
Flipping that to get Eklund could possibly be an overpay but he was probably the best young player traded so far
4th for Byram is a bit nuts but Byram was a former 4th overall so basically Chicago pressed the FF button and skipped 7 years of development to get another 4th overall player for a myster box 4th overall. I mean the guy they draft could one day be as good as the the forme 4th overall Byram LOL.

Even Calgary got a former 2nd overall pick and traded Vegas 1st (which will be in late 20s) and Colorados pick (which again late 20s). Which they got for trading Kadri. And then a 2nd pick and nothing prospect. Thats not really an overpay IMO.

Right now the market is not for those who are risk averse. It will cost picks. But if your ok with giving up myster boxes for actual NHL players odds are you will come out ahead for at least 3 or 4 years.

Ya I don't think the guys we have probably have that much value. Teams either want immediate help or picks to chose their own guys.

Makes the whole Knies fiasco sting even more. Could have had Knies already in the fold and with 20/20 hindsight the price was pretty fair.

Don't see it that way
Brady >> 9th pick, especially for Florida
Byram is a 4th OVA pick himself. Chicago just sped up the time line. I mean the 4th pick could have turned out to be as good as Byram in 7 years lol
Kyrou was fair value and the best that STL got out of it is 25 year old McMicheal
SJS might have done the best "rip off" but still Eklund was a 7th pick, they moved him for the 9th pick. They just rewound the clock giving up a young player for a myster box.
And at the end of the day you can only judge in a few years. If SJS with the 9th pick takes a total bust while Eklund becomes a 35 goal scorer Ottawa wins that trade by a mile
If Brady leads Florida to another cup they win the trade
If Kyrou bounces back and becomes a 70 point winger leading the Caps back to the playoffs while McMicheal and the 16th pick are 3rd liners Washington wins the trade.

Neither of us? Unless you're a GM and you hand out contract with clause then you get to live with your choice.
