HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #93: Y'all got any more of those 2nd line centers out there?

Sabres fans on their board talking about Tage couple days ago. Discussion start here (click), goes on for a page and a half.

TLDR : They love him, but despite his elite production, he's not a Center. He's not part of the problem in Buffalo, they don't want to trade him. But, he's a winger (a really freaking good one). Defensively, he's a black hole. Need to acquire a strong two-way Center to play with him. Management has failed in surrounding him with the proper players to help him.

Long Island end of year definitly helps them to keep Horvat. The club has shown major improvements without the players traded. They have been to hook the best prospect deal by grabbing Cal Ritchie, a legit top 6 center in the making, then they got Schaefer. A center like Horvat is the ideal way to put some glue on their other gem Cole Eiserman and remember everyone that the guy was listed 1st OV pick at some point the year before.
As much as I like Hage (and his CH affinity) I was praying it was Eiserman..

me too, I was expecting Hage, wants him bad and still realy happy about that pick, but Eiserman was only 2 weeks away to be drafted in 2025. It was almost judging a prospect one season too early.
My heart sank when NYI picked him.. but not enough people understood how young he is. Isles have basically won two lotteries in a row..

and what about Cozens? ... Sometimes just blame the system. Thompson has been fabulous as a center a year ago. He's not dump material. Find a way to make shine your diamonds. Buffalo have a lot of good assets. They need to find the right mix / mixer and a soul.

Thoughts on acquiring Elias Pettersson? Overpaid, injuries, and had a bad year, but is still a young #1 C. Suzuki and Pettersson would be a contender 1-2 tandem.

50/50. His knee problems + can’t handle the media, + horrible contract like you said. Risky.

But if management feel his knee problems are a thing of the past and they can bring him back to the player he was last year, crazy payoff.

Definition of a high-risk/high-reward bet. I could be talked into it, depending on the price.

But realistically, Vancouver doesn’t do it for anything less than a Suzuki swap. And at that point, I’m out.

If they have to wait to address the 2C position until next offseason , maybe they target Connor McMichael with an offer sheet? He’s currently 24 years old, plays an aggressive style and he showed in these playoffs he’s a gamer. He’s a left handed shot and could fit well with Demidov on the second line.

Looking at the Caps contracts situation, they’re gonna have a shit load of cap space next year. And that’s before taking into account the rising cap.

You’d have to overpay big time for them to not match (4 1sts). At that point not worth it.

How much/little would Zacha cost in a trade? At 28, he's still young and could be extended as the 3rd line C after the last two years of his current contractor the first year of his next contract.

Not the best playmaker, but 50% + in the dot as a C and he has a good shot. Also a big enough boy that plays in traffic and digs pucks out in the O-zone.

Good stop gap 2C and future 3C that helps us be bigger as contenders in three to four years. Also should not cost a fortune to acquire (bunch of 2nd rounders and a prospect like Beck, or Kapanen)?

Yep I like the Zacha one.

Why would the Bruins part with him though ? Pasta, McAvoy and Swayman are primed and signed to long term deals. I don't see why they would get rid of him.

I’d be looking to see what the price for Oettinger is. Montembault would be good at playing musical chairs with Deboer. :sarcasm:

Any thoughts on style of players that match this organization’s philosophy and playing style? Florida has found a lot of guys that fit their system and seen huge returns - a way bigger factor than just finding good players. There’s no blueprint for winning the cup.

My first instinct would be to say high-IQ, versatile forwards (e.g. Suzuki) and defenceman that can skate and shoot the puck.

ok guys
anyone that is not on the radar, let's think outside the box.
Horvat and the rest of the gang are names that are out there.

could KH go off the map and get a guy we are not even thinking of??
Here is another one.

Jonathan Toews, I would guess he will sign for super cheap with a real contender but certainly worth a phone call to his agent.

Boston is due for a rebuild , they are many reasons. They are god awful
They were injured a lot last season. They fired their coach for no real reason. I think they will be in playoff contention next year : they have a lot of cap space with only Geekie as key FA. Pastrnak and McAvoy are elite, Lindholm Zadorov Peeke are good Dmen and Geekie Lindholm Zacha a good support
I think we should not be overconfident based on last season, MTL lost 4-1 to WSH which lost 4-1 to CAR which lost 4-1 to FLA. There is a good chance they miss the playoffs and maybe finish below BOS next season

The thought of adding a 5'2 C enrages me.

Sure but I don't think overpaying for a guy for this year and next makes any sense if he's gonna be a 3C when we actually contend.
You mean Horvat?

I'm grappling with this question for a while now.

He'll be 32 two seasons from now. I don't see why he can't still be an effective 2C at that age. There's certainly some risk involved, but he's not necessarily an option that can only help us in the immediate future.

The way I see it, we have 3 blue chip-ish prospects in Fowler, Reinbacher and Hage. These, I agree, should only be moved for an impact player (star goalie, 1B center, 1D), but I'm not sure we should be penny pinching with our B prospects.

Mason McTavish is clearly the best C for us that we have identified. The problem is there is absolutley no reason for the Ducks to trade this guy. None.

And we do have players, prospects and picks but there is nothing we have that should interest the Ducks except possibly Lane Hutson. If Im the Ducks I keep McTavish.
