I think Habs will end up going with Dach again. At least to start the year. If doesn't work out can address it at deadline

They were... Just not a good cap "value" 3rd line given the 16M$ cap hit they represent.

Habs had one of the best "bottom 6" group of forwards in the league in terms of performance impact. That depth was a big part of our success.

Losing Dvo & Armia without a suitable or upgrade replacement will put a lot of pressure on Demidov & Kapanen/Beck/Roy to provide meaningful impact if we want our forward depth to remain a strength... As good as our first line was, not sure we can count on Dach, Newhook & Laine to provide the kind of top6 impact we'd need to offset the learning curve of 2-3 rookies & sophomore Heineman in the forward lineup

My vision of the team is simple for next year. But I'm loooking forward to seeing how HuGo see it. Here is mine:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine (or top six wing replacement) - New 2c - Demidov
Gally/Newhook - Dvo/Newhook - Anderson
Heineman - Evans - Dach
F. Xhekaj, Kapanen, Beck, Roy, Farrell in Laval as injury replacement depth.

- Dach slides into the Armia role. He should be able to handle it. And big centers are too valuable to just throw in the towel on Dach without getting anything in return.
- Keep two of Gally, Dvo, and Newhook. For sure I hope Dvo's cap hit would be lower. Already locked into Gally and Anderson cap hits. Can't do anything about them.
- If we were able to land a high cap hit 2c AND top six winger, hopefully Laine and Gally could be salary dumped without giving up too much in assets. Both could net the receiveing team draft picks, in each of the next two years when they are pending UFA's.

What's the point of Zegras , he can't play center , he's soft as hell and he's overpaid. Manson meh if we get rid of Mardeson I guess

I don't think Zegras is soft, nor overpaid. Wether he lands here or not, let's revisit in 12 months... Happy to eat my crow if I'm wrong, but im betting he's about to have a monster year.

It's fun to make playoffs but we didn't make playoffs because of Dach Newhook nor Dvorak let's use our brain here.

Bennett best seasons are the 3 last years in an op team. He's still only a 40 points player at his best. Not really a great playmaker neither. Someone will overpay because there is always one dumb GM to give 10m. I would rather add 4m and get Marner if i was to choose.

Bennett at 10M >>> Marner at 14M if we're talking teams looking to win in the playoffs.

I don't want either at those cap hits, but to prefer Marner at a 40% premium when Bennett has been the better playoff performer over a large sample size is odd.

Agree that we're better off without either given the summer market reality this year

As for Ekblad , the man isn't that great. Seth Jones fell off and got paid . Ekblad is literally a copy. He's already on that slide. Would you really give him 8x7? Or perhaps even more?

We'll need to get rid of Mardeson, Gallagher and Anderson or Laine just to get salary first.

I'd match the 6yrs/7M per that Pionk got in WPG... Maybe 8M if the Intel on his injury & health status was positive. He'll likely get more if he leaves Florida as the top Dman on the market and no, I wouldn't outbid the top offer if it's more than that.

We don't have much on RD I mean What's the point of having jackeye or Struble if we sign another 3rd pair dman because he's tall? We have Mailloux also.

Having more than 1 RD with experience is important, imo. Even if one of RB/Mailloux make the team out of camp, injuries are a reality. Our NHL ready RD depth is a big concern. Top 4 upgrades are sparse & expensive (you already poo pooed Pietrangelo, Manson & Ekblad), Perbix is as vanilla as they come, but also has been steady and reliable as a 5-6 dman on a very good Bolts team.

Hutson, Guhle, Matheson, Strubble, Xhekaj (Engstrom) gives us excellent depth at LD, and yes, some of them can step in at RD in a pinch, but either way, adding some vet RD depth is quite likely KH's #1 offseason priority. Doubt Perbix is the top choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if we made an aggressive offer with the intent for him to hold down the bottom pair RD spot for the next 2-4 years... Perhaps even moreso if KH is confident that RB will be able to step into top 4 minutes at some point next season.

Very probable they won't have other choices. The only piece they'll be able to replace is the 3C (Dvorak).

23 year old winger who put up 28 goals and 50 pts two seasons ago and 27 goals and and 68 pts last season.

Imagine having Caufield, Slaf, Demidov & Peterka as your Top-6 wingers.

Peterka is a winger and very shit at face-off even for a winger (16.7% last season), so nobody should even entertain the idea of moving him to center.

I saw the reports on Dach. You were right. It wasn't the injury, he just came in piss poor shape. If I hear he didn't spend the summer here I'll be pissed. Also, I agree, I don't think they're pencilling him anywhere in the lineup. He's likely treated like an unproven player on his last RFA deal.

Read the last few pages of the roster building/trade thread on the Figs board earlier tonight and someone there said that there were rumors that the Habs were thinking about buying out Anderson?

That was the first I'd seen or heard anything about that possibly happening this offseason so not sure were that person saw that "rumor". Did I miss something recently?

I agree as well. He had a great 4 nations final while Matthews couldn’t get the job done and win it. Marner gets more hate than he should imo.
