HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #93: Y'all got any more of those 2nd line centers out there?

If he signed with the Canes don't want him anyway. At least show some interest in winning. Montreal at least would have a chance to win the Cup.
That won’t even be an issue. Canes do not hand out bonus structured contracts & now are insistent on deferred payment contracts - which is what they proposed to Rantanen, who had no interest in being paid over next 20-30 years

Marner type UFAs want as much contract $ in as near term as possible w 90%+ paid in bonuses on July 1st

Habs have traditionally had no issue in handing out heavy bonus structured contracts

:thumbu: :thumbu: If that has always been the case then MB's offer sheet does have some logic to it. And of course explains why Aho would have jumped on the offer sheet. As any Cane should.
The only reason to take deferred money is for tax reasons (but not for 20-30 years).
Gallagher likely took a back ended contract so he couldn't be traded.

Nope, he definitely played a hardnosed game for his size and had a very high IQ in the CHL.

And that is the problem.

Marco Rossi was already physically-mature at 18/19, and hasn't really added much strength since.

As a result, he can get smothered on the boards just as easily as Caufield when he doesn't have body position, or when players go at it 100%, like in the playoffs.

As a center, involved in a lot more battles down low along the boards, that lack of size/strength of Rossi's is felt even more keenly, meaning that against an aggressive and physical team he can get a bit exposed and exploited.

Also, Marco Rossi produced a heck of a lot with Kaprizov on his line.

He had close to a PPG when Kaprizov was still playing. But after Kaprizov got injured, Rossi failed to build much chemistry with other players on the Wild, and that ultimately cost him a top-6 role for the Wild to end the season as he slumped BAD (ultimately leading to him being demoted to the fourth-line to start the playoffs).

So yeah, Rossi did end up finding some amount of success for the Wild in the playoffs and having a couple good games all things considered, but given the already-lacking size in the Canadiens' lineup and the presence of Caufield who's our own short-king, at this point I don't think that Marco Rossi is the best fit as 2C for us.
Ah i see. Thanks for the insight!

Gallagher has no bonuses in his contract all salary - last 2 seasons have been the highest salary payout $8M & $9M, and next 2 seasons his actual salary drops and he’s always had a 6-team NTC… so if anything he made it “easier” for Habs to deal him towards back end of contract

Slafkovsky only played 39 games his rookie year. That's not a full season. It's not even half a season. He played 79 this year & 82 last year.

McTavish has played 76, 64, & 80 games over the last 3 years.
He’s also wrong.

Slaf
D+2: 20g 50 points. Full 82 games
D+3: 18g 51 points. 79 games. 53 point pace

McTavish
D+2: 17g 43 points. 80 games. 44 point pace.
D+3: 19g 42 points. 64 games. 24g 54 point pace.
D+4: 22g 52 points. 76 games. 24g 56 point pace

so Slaf out produced Mason in their D+2 year, and Mason out produced Slaf in their D+3 year by a point. Mason's D+4 year is less than a handful out of points better than Slaf's D+3 year.

So, who are the potential center targets ?

William Karlsson (would be one of my main targets)
Granlund
Beniers/Stephenson/McCann
Cirelli (seen some TB fans throwing him around)
Bennett
Zacha/Morgan Geekie (more of a LW though)
Mavrik Bourque(?)
Nelson
Rossi (doubt it - doesn't fit the size management wants, but fits the way they want to play on offense)
Hayton
Novak
Roslovic
Mercer
Sillinger
Pageau/Horvat/Barzal
Crosby (highly doubt it though)
Danault/Turcotte
Kadri (doubt the Flames will rebuild though)
Pettersson (if the due diligence on his character/knee tendinitis clears, I would 100% be in on him, he's an insane talent)
Ryan Strome

Anyone I'm missing ?

Would be interesting to do the same with RDs. Dobson seems to be on the market. Klingberg would be a cheap add too.

No but I think with the real good drafts coming up, NyIslanders gonna go in full rebuild. Some guys like Pullock are gonna be available.
All depends what new GM does. They may only small retool since they lucked out with lottery. No guarantee they start selling farm yet.

I don’t think Schaefer plays nhl next year
Who was the last player drafted 1st OA to not play in the nhl the following year?

I don’t know who hut i know it was a looong time ago.

It certainly wouldn’t be the norm for him to not play in the NHL next year, assuming he’s drafted 1st, as he should be.

Erik Johnson (2006 draft), although Owen Power only played 8 NHL games his 1st season. Both defenceman of course.

Owen Power-less. Schaefer only player 17 games this season. They could send him back for another season in the OHL.

Am I the only one who doesn’t want to pay a premium for a 2C? Is there any UFAs?

I’d rather audition internally honestly. If one falls in our laps for peanuts then fine. I’d make exceptions for like a Horvat level talent
