the 2C has to be a stud defensive/2 way player/PKer because PP1 is already filled, can't dump too much money into a offensive 2C and have him play PP2, ideally bringing size/grit too

how many players fit that mold? Horvat would be great altho i don't like the caphit, he checks a lot of those boxes and brings good leadership too
Not neceassarily. I think an offensive minded center who can give and go with Demidov is a better option, with a defensive minded winger.

Lets say theres some pushbacks in the contract talks between McTavish and ANA this summer, do we think 17th OA + top 5 protected 1st 2026 + Mailloux gets it done?

Then Id move up from 16 into the back end of the top 10 to get Eklund (something like 16th + 40th + Kapanen for 9th OA from NYI).

That could be our lineup as soon as next year with Eklund and Hage coming at the end of the season.

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Laine-McTavish-Demidov
Newhook-Dach-Anderson
Evans-Beck-Heineman

Hutson-Reinbacher
Guhle-Carrier
Xhekaj-Struble

McT would be a dream. He’s fit on this team like a glove.

Cole Suzuki Slaf
Demidov McT Dach

That would be a very strong top 6

The way he finished the year makes me think there's no shot Anaheim trades him.

If Duchene does re-sign in Dallas, would it make sense to go after Seguin (if they retain)?

Getting the contract off their books might not cost as much as it would seem and he's listed as a C/RW for them. Close to a PPG guy.

Edit: Just saw he has a NMC... might not be possible.

Depending on which is available I'd make Mailloux, Beck, Haje and Roy available
Uncle Lou said the plans are to add to the existing team this summer. NYI have lots of cap space & will go hard after Bennett / Marner to add to Horvat, Barzal, Dobson etc

It's well documented that Crosby has made it clear he wants to finish his career with Pittsburgh, i think it's a pipe dream to expect him to come to MTL
True. If he is happy playing on a loser team for his last few years then there is no chance. Only hope is that he decides he'd rather go to a contender.

God no!

If Hughes approaches Dubas with an offer that he likes he'll have to take it to Sid and then it's up to Sid.

Sid hates change, that's the only thing. He's one of those guys where I legit think he'd rather lose the rest of his career if it meant nothing changes.

Any other guy I'd expect them to want to move on.

Barzal haven't really played center in the last 3-4 seasons. Barely taken FOs in the last 2 and he miss half a season every 2 seasons.

Habs 2-way center needs to be a defensive guy with some offense anyhow. So Suzuki doesn't have to play on the PK anymore.
I dont know if we need that much an other defensive center. Evans, Suzuki, Dvo (have a feeling hes gonna be resign), Beck coming up, are all two way center. I wouldn’t mind an offensive guy like Barzal. He played center a lot before Horvat got there. Then again, Lou isn’t looking at prospects/picks so I dont see a deal possible with the Islanders.

At the end of the day, fans in this thread wants a 60pts+, two way, good at faceoff, not old, big, on a good contract, rarely injured second line center. It’s just not happening, we gotta be realistic. We gonna get someone with some questions marks.

Id offer a chunk for Horvat, Or FA contracts to the centers with the opportunity to play with Demi

Seguin could keep Dach company in the press box while both are on IR.

The players we currently have on the 2nd line aren't safe defensively, the 2c will need to be competent to compensate for that. And Suzuki was put back on the PK with Evans and Dvo still around these last few games.

And I'm perfectly fine with a ~50 pts 2nd line two-way center personally.
