Suzuki’s best friend. So Durzi is their move? They need to make room for Lamoureux, he looked ready to make the step in his call up.

Utah has one good LD and 3 top 4 RD and Lamoureux coming up.
A Matheson / Marino or Kesselring swap +/- picks could be good for both teams.
A move for Durzi or Lamoureux would be a good move.Suzuki’s best friend.
Jeez, even Matheson makes these two LD's look like AHLers. They just re-signed Maata and Cole, not sure they are looking at upgrading their LD.
You contradict yourself like 3 times in these couple of lines. The core isn't built, but we do have one but it's not there yet. But we only have one line and a couple of D men (Aka........ a core group of players??).The core isn't built. Montreal's got one line and a couple of D-men, and we can't project their upside (or the fit of guys like Demidov and Reinbacher). Montreal may have a core. but its not there yet.
I also don't think Crosby makes Montreal a contender right away, because Montreal's bigger issue isn't offense, its defence. And Crosby isn't the two way force he was even a couple of seasons ago.

Crosby easily makes Montreal a contender. We are in a wild card spot despite being a very young team and having the worst 2nd line in the league. You’re honestly saying if Crosby was there all year instead of Dach, and Demidov instead of Newhook that the team wouldn’t be comfortably in a playoff spot? You’re replacing a 2C that was on pace for 35 points with one that’s going to get 90+ and a winger that’s struggling to get 25 points with one that should get 60, as a rookie.
I’m not saying they’d be favourites, but does anyone want to face that team in a 7 game series? Statistically one of the best 1st lines in the league. On paper probably the best 2nd line in the league. A 3rd line that’s been great. A good 4th line that can chip in. Not to mention the PP becomes nearly automatic, you’re replacing Slaf and Caufield with Crosby and Demidov. That is insanity.
Despite trading 1sts, they’d still have pieces to give to upgrade the D.

Anyway.. the core IS built. The contracts have been signed. Nick, Cole, Slaf, Guhle. Hutson will be added to the mix of this. We have another top D prospect coming and a top F prospect coming. This is literally the definition of a core and who, IMO, should be untouchable. You could argue Fowler because he's our top G prospect but even that's a reach.
ANYONE/ANYTHING else can be moved and should be moved to improve the core and team going forward.
Adding Crosby absolutely puts us in the mix for contending. It doesn't make us a powerhouse or a sure thing but the whole dynamic of the team changes. He replaces Slaf in the bumper for PP1 (and he's like the best in the league there). He takes pressure off of Nick for all of the offense. He probably plays with Demidov which, that in itself is amazing. He can take faceoffs. He's not a defensive beast anymore but he's fine (better than Dach).
His aura alone would elevate the team.
Utah is thin at C depth and Hayton seems to finally find his game, doubt they trade him.Bad finishing luck or more Newhookism? I think were past the reclamation project time and I also struggle to see why they would trade him, they dont have anyone else at C. Also Tourigny loves him.
Does this help:I wish Sid would come out and say " I am not leaving Pitt"
end the dream
I doubt it changes anything cause that’s a Jan article, people needs him to say it now to believe itDoes this help:
"I'm trying to do everything I possibly can for us," Crosby said. "Be at my best, to give us a chance to win every night, to be a good teammate. We all want to get through a difficult point right now. That's my mindset.
"All my energy is here and trying to do everything I can here."
Crosby's comments come days after TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston reported the Penguins star had no interest in being moved following the Rantanen blockbuster.
"Unless something changes -- and at this point I have absolutely ZERO reason to believe it will -- Sidney Crosby isn't being traded out of Pittsburgh," Johnston wrote in a post on X. "He's an untouchable as far as the Pens are concerned, plus he's got a no-movement clause and no desire to be dealt.""

Hutson won’t be a rookie next year. We are talking about next season since Crosby isn’t here now. Hutson who is only going to get better. He’s been one of the best defencemen in the entire league since the break. You think that’s stopping?Comfortably in a playoff spot? Sure. A contender? Only in the way the Bergevin Habs were contenders. There are still too many holes.
And I guarantee you teams would want to see a team with an undersized rookie, Matheson, Guhle and and Carrier as their top 4, with an underappreciated but unproven veteran goalie behind them. Certainly more than any other D core in the East.

And no, I don’t think any team wants to have their 2nd defensive pairing have to face Crosby passing it to Patrik Laine
That’s better than any team Bergevin ever assembled by a longshot
...You’re honestly saying if Crosby was there all year instead of Dach, and Demidov instead of Newhook that the team wouldn’t be comfortably in a playoff spot? ...
Listen I don’t think they’d be the Avalanche or Stars of this year. But I can’t see how the Leafs or anyone else in the Habs division would beat a 1-2 punch of Suzuki and Crosby. But that’s just me. I think if you get Sid, you made subsequent moves to cover other areas as well.I interpreted it as you talking about this year from this, my apologies if I was wrong:
But that's not the point. The point is Montreal doesn't have prime Danault shutdown C. They don't have a Weber or prime Petry eating heavy minutes and outscoring the opposition when they're on the ice. Hutson has been truly special since the 4 Nations, but he's still doing it with heavy offensive zone starts and generally facing other team's second best lines 5v5. Montreal doesn't have that D-man that can go up against other team's top lines and give as good at they can get. They have Matheson who can do it and barely survive. And I'm not sure Hutson will make the jump to be that guy next season. Not with his physical limitations and when teams have more tape to plan for him.
And offense alone doesn't get you to be a contender. At best, it gets you to the level of the Dubas Leafs, who could score at will but wilt in the playoffs.

They had that talent back when we had Joel Edmundson and Ben Chiarot in the Top 4. It didn’t matter. I think you can get the pieces that gives you a solid defence. None of them have Hutson, I’m taking him over any Leafs defender and over any Panthers defender.I mean, Matthews/Tavares (if he re-signs) and Point/Cirelli would be right there, but that's not really my point.
They don't need to beat it. They've got Hedman/McDonagh/Cernak, Tanev/McCabe/Rielly, Forsling/Ekblad (maybe)/Mikkola, Sanderson/Chabot/Zub. Or even Dahlin/Byram/Power.
Hutson has been awesome and Guhle looks like a good 2nd pair D (when healthy), but I wont bet on Hutson (or anyone in the system) excelling in the minutes Matheson plays, and until that happens Montreal is not going to be a serious contender.
If we're going to add veterans, I'd rather see what a guy like Weegar is available (and what he may cost) and aim lower at 2C. I think that helps Montreal more in the short and long term more than adding Crosby.
such a good pointSooooooo. Which UFA C sign a friendly contract just to play with Demigod??
nopeGranlund is a UFA and would be a decent 2C, also Finnish so could gel with Laine.
Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Laine-Granlud-Demidov
Actually pretty dangerous imho.

Horvat and Crosby aren't getting traded for many reasons. Lou is still Islanders GM and he doesn't rebuild especially not with the pieces they have. Crosby isn't getting traded / waiving his NMCMy choice of C in order :
1-Horvat
2-Crosby
3-Duchene
4-Granlund
5-Zacha
