Yes, Mario was still a PPG player despite all his injuries at 40. Exactly. Crosby is having the 2nd best career longevity wise. Howe was effective until he was 46.

Youre expecting Crosby to be useless next year? Hage will come in soon, probably a seemless passing of the torch for the 2C spot.
Howe was one of the oldest players to ever play, and he played, what, 60 years ago? So, an outlier. You are basically gambling that Crosby will be an outlier, too. The older you get, the more health problems you accrue, the more likely your body tissue stiffens up, the lower your hormones drop, etc.. It is aging. Do I think Crosby could be good for two years: maybe. Do I think he will play at this level for 5 years: unlikely. Do I think he will be good for 8 years: improbable.

So, although he could be a unicorn, you are talking on risk.

So, my ceiling for Crosby would be something like our late 1st and maybe some lower draft picks (2nd and 3rd), or a prospect we want to give up on. But 3 firsts and a solid prospect would be a risky bet. 3 firsts and a solid prospect was something that Bergevin didn’t want to give for like 7+ years of Aho, which would actually be more worth it due to term and stability and how it would help attract UFAs.

For Crosby, we would end up going all in for a two year window, and then restart rebuild, since as a top performer, we would have bad draft pocks for 2-3 years plus the ones we used to trade, and so we are looking at 4-5 years of emptying your cupboard, so it would be like Price retiring again.

Im gambling that Crosby, whos been an outlier since he was 6 years old, is going to keep on being an outlier?

Wow, id take that gamble.

Its Sidney Crosby. Repeat after me, Sidney Crosby.

I'd offer Sid stocks in Habs ownership ... without asking Molson.. Screw him! :sarcasm:

Sid ain't playing with another Jersey, that's his dying wish!

Giving up 3 1sts for a 38 year old is so dumb. Sid will likely retire after his contract, he's got nothing left to prove. Only way he gets traded out of Pittsburgh is if he wants it (which he's said many times he wants to retire as a Pen) or if they convince him that they want to go for McKenna and Dupont.

Hawks traded 33 year old legend Patrick Kane for a 3rd. Sid is older and better than Kane, but the point is that the Hawks traded him where he wants to go as they were also going to tank.

You wouldnt give 3 first for a cup?

Adding Crosby doesn't guarantee a cup.
I Dont think hed cost 3 firsts myself, but say he does, is there anything else we could do with those three picks that would get us closer?

Think about the impact he would have on Demidov, think about the two lines. Crosby would be our best player and doesnt require PP to be our best producer. He would be amazing for us.

I wouldn’t because I would want our team to battle for a cup, not bribe someone for the win 😝

Serious, though, the point is that Sid would not guarantee us the cup. He could get hit in the head in his first game and never play again. Or, even if he wasn’t injured, he would make us a contender, but not a sure winner. Many teams with top talent don’t win the cup: looking at you Leafs

Use them as assets to either draft players and/or trade for someone who won't retire in 2 years. He'll be way cheaper than people here would think. If he accepts to get traded, he'll either he wants to play with his best friend Nate, or for his childhood team. Neither team is going to give up premium assets with that in mind.

Nothing guarantees a Cup. But they are legitimate contenders if they add Crosby (not that it’s ever going to happen)
We've got a gaping hole on the backend and our goaltending is still a massive question mark. Far from contenders so we really shouldn't be giving up 3 1sts for someone with 2 seasons left.

The fact that some people think three firsts isn't nearly enough and others think it's way too much tells me it's about right in terms of value.

As for it not being worth it for us, I'm not sure I follow that. The man makes us immediate contenders and provides a bridge until Hage. Moreover, he mentors the kids we have. We have excess prospects/assets and it's time to cash some in.

Crosby's got some more life in him. Think about how Jagr was productive into his 40s, I'd expect the same to be true with Sid. Add Sid and get depth on RD and we're contending next year.

Adding Crosby doesn't even guarantee Montreal makes the playoffs next season.

This has been/is an encouraging season, but people seem to be sucked into the moment and not looking at the bigger picture.
Come on, look at what Sid is doing with that terrible team in Pittsburgh, it's completely nuts. He has more points than Suzuki imagine them being 1-2 down the middle, we would be really hard to play against and stop!

Man I would pay a lot for Crosby, I'd start at the draft with both our 1st and their 2nd round pick back!!

Probably not.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Has something changed with Crosby since he said this?

“I’ve said I’m going to always be here. I just signed a new contract to be here. I’ve been very upfront about it — I’m a Pittsburgh Penguin.”

I understand speculating on a message board. But it seems there is a lot of energy spent in this thread on a trade for Crosby.

On that note it would be great to see him in Habs’ jersey and if he was to be traded I think he would select the teams that he would be ok to be traded too (and I don’t expect it would be a long list). I think he still has a lot of great hockey left and I don’t think it would take as much as has been discussed here in a trade.

Of course he's going to say this. Would you expect anything else?

Again, you make the offer and you see if they let him speak with you. That's it. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. I'm not sitting here saying this would get it done, I'm just saying it's worth a shot.

Thats what I think too, wed have to outbid Colorado, a first and a prospect would do it, max.

With that said, I think people underrate crosby here, hes 37 but hes still a top 10 player in the world.

He leads the league in 5v5 points with the Pens... like wtf are people smoking.
