We already have two small defenseman that are cemented on the team. Don't want another guy there that's on the smallish side. I prefer big defenseman with long sticks that can lean on guys.

I doubt Beniers would be available. McCann might be. He’s being used as a winger mostly though.
One guy who I might make a 2/3 year offer for is Jack Roslovic. Could be a short term 2C until Hage is ready. Has scored 21 goals so far this year.

I don't disagree but I think pointing out Struble isn't the best case to make. He punishes guys in the D zone and doesn't get pushed around at all. If he was an inch taller I don't think you'd be talking about him.

I like him but I just think the way our defense is set up at the moment, I would rather take a chance on Xhekaj to see if it works out long term than Struble. We have so many LD's in the system that can eventually take his spot. Xhekaj is like unicorn.

I by no means want to move Xhekaj and think Habs can always use a guy like him, and posted that earlier in this thread. That being said, Struble has been a lot better defensively and I think there's a spot for both of them on the bottom pair.

They should be moving Matheson to add a RHD that they really need and give them a D like this to start next year:

Hutson RHD
Guhle Carrier
Struble/Xhekaj Reinbacher

That new RHD should be the big, rangy shut down D who can let Hutson be Hutson and lock down the back end. Think Mete and Weber but actually effective.

I would not take Roslovic over Newhook, or Dach, at this stage of their respective careers.

Plus, with the rising cap and thin C UFAs, some team is going to pay a huge premium for him. Hard pass.

The way Hutson has been playing on the right i'm starting to wonder if we really need a RHD

As good as he has been on the right, his natural position is on the left. I'd rather have him in the best position to succeed and fill a shut down RHD role to have a complete and competitive D corp that can go up against any team.

I was mentioning earlier this week that I would offersheet Cuylle. Rangers do not have ton of cap space, but we would still need to go with something like 2 years per 6.8M to be successful. His physicality in our middle would be extremely helpful. We would still have cap space for 2C.
People were afraid of compensation 1st and 3rd. We can suck next season, be lottery team and win McKenna. Hmm, not really I think.

Yeah I’d take Roslovic over Dach or Newhook in the 2C spot without hesitation. If we can’t find a trade for a 2C then I think I’d rather slightly overpay on a 2/3 year deal as a stop gap. Some team will probably offer 4 or more years though which I wouldn’t be ok with.
