HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

I think Montreal has problems if the plan is to have a Manson playing with Hutson.
& why is that?

I'd imagine the "plan" would be to have RB take that spot, but having a reliable vet like Manson in place to start the year at ES next to Hutson & then "bumped" to the bottom pair once RB establishes himself is the kind of depth buffer a team with playoff expectations needs.

Of course, an even better vet RD option would be great, those just aren't nearly as readily available.

I'd make a pitch at Soucy.

He's another LD. That's the last thing we need to add with Guhle, Hutson, Matheson, Strubble, Xhekaj & Engstrom already in place.

Capwages says he can play on right side

The "plan" would be to get a true upgrade on one of Montreal's actual top-4 D (Hutson, Matheson, Guhle and Carrier). I don't care about acquiring Manson if the cost is negligible, but He plays softer minutes than each of Matheson, Guhle and Carrier and hasn't been that much more effective either.

I'd also strongly argue that the Girard-Manson pair has been Colorado's worst regular pair, and even if Hutson is much better than Girard, I just don't like the fit with Hutson. I really don't like pairing the mobile undersized PMD with the big, slow defensive D. I don't think it works in the modern NHL.

Does he really play "softer" minutes? Certainly PK time isn't soft & he plays a fair bit of that for the Avs. Haven't seen his zone starts but I'd be surprised if it isn't heavily dzone skewed.

Fair enough. Though I agree with the premise of not pairing Hutson with a sluggish defensive D, I'm not sure I'd agree with your assessment of Manson, nor with categorizing him as "slow"... He's pretty mobile for his size.

But to be sure, if we can acquire a better RD to slot in the top 4 either permanently or as a stop gap until RB is ready, I'm all for it.

I just don't really see a good fit out there at this time.

He's not much more D zone skewed than the guys I mentioned, and he plays less against other teams top players.

Not sure what stats you're referencing...

But my quick look up confirmed that:
- he has the highest dzone starts % of their top 4 used dmen
- his quality of comp is about even with he newly acquired Lindgren & they are just below the Avs all world top pair of Makar & Toews but ahead of the rest of the Avs D.

Not unlike what he'd see paired with Hutson, leaving Guhle's pairing to rightfully hold the top shut down match up deployment... Minus getting a bit more Ozone starts, which he has the ability to handle better than most physical "defensive" dmen

Duchene is definitely my number one target this summer. I'm not sold on Bennett to play with Demidov/Laine. Unfortunately, Dallas will have plenty of cap space to resign Duchene. Just gotta hope that he chooses us.
Choose us? like he did before? The only thing i suspect him of doing is using us to raise the price tag of his next contract. Hughes will have to get creative to fill that 2C spot imo.

asking price would be huge for horvart, I was think more of a pick for pick trade,

besisdes, he an suzuki are both from london
If our pick and the Flames first are both 15 and above

I'd give both firsts and I'd add a prospect like Beck

I'd assume 2 firsts and Beck could get this done or at least started

I was looking at ROR’s contract and it expires in 2027. Plus he has a cap hit of 4.5
I said Forsberg and ROR would be crazy addition to this roster. Nashville probably looking to rebuild now.

Beck+2nd for ROR
Dach+Mailloux+Roy+1st in 2025 for Forsberg (A bit better than the package for Guentzel last year IMO)

Forsberg-Suzuki-Demidov
Cole-ROR-Slaf

Nice top 6.

He'll get traded eventually. [...] He's showing so much, but it seems like he's never been able to settle into the coaching staff. He has no rope, he makes a mistake and he pays right away, while there are other players who have a lot more rope. If from a management perspective, toughness or battle is more or less important, that's where I think Arber Xhekaj's days in Montreal are numbered." - Bob Hartley
