HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

I don't know what's up with Matheson, but he's been terri-bad recently. I would think he'd be a prime candidate to trade in the offseason and not risk pulling a Savard and holding on to him until he's worth nothing.

Listening to team Canada reps, they still valued him and had him on their short list of replacements at the 4 Nations, so hopefully he still has some value that can be extracted.
Simple to me , when he is over played he makes mistake after mistake .
When he is rested and plays a controlled amount of minutes he looks like a stud.

If Dach gets moved this summer in a trade for a 2C or RHD then I wouldn't hate offering a super low value 1 year contract to Mantha. I don't think he'll get much more than league minimum this summer, so if we can get him for just above league minimum then I'd take a waver on him. Local guy, good size and fairly decent upside when he's healthy. If we keep Dach and he's penciled into 3RW next season then I obviously wouldn't bother.

My feeling:
he was overrated. KH should have moved him last year.
now they are stuck with him.
it would be alot worse, if habs did not have Lane H
There is a market for Matheson — some teams are hungry for a minute-eating D. The biggest barrier to a trade is Hughes and how attached he might be to his ex-client.

The QHB’s (Quality Human Being) contract expires after next season. I doubt Hughes will have an appetite to trade him at the deadline if the Habs are in the mix or better next season. He may just end up in the same boat as Armia, Savard, Dvorak — untraded with an expiring contract.

Keeping the team in a playoff race will be much more important than trading away certain players at next year’s deadline. Unless Hughes surprises everyone and trades Matheson in the off season. Highly unlikely.

Dach is not getting moved before he plays again. Who knows when that will be.

Connor McMichael is playing on the wing in WSH but is a natural center. Good speed and two-way play, 24yo on a bridge contract. I highly doubt WSH has much interest in moving him, but maybe this is a situation where they’d consider an overpayment due to their current depth at C and upcoming prospects on the wing? He’s had some ups and downs, struggled with inconsistency and high expectations. There were rumours about him moving at the draft for McGroarty.

Have we talked about him much yet?

Would be really great but they would not trade a young guy like him with Ovy turning 40 soon. He’s part of their future.

We start to know Hughes better now, we saw how he managed Armia, Dvorak and Savard at end of contracts in a playoffs race. Next year could be similar. Team might be better with the adition of Demidov but losing Armia, Dvorak and Savard will hurt some way. So at the end the team will be in the same situation.

It takes just three shifts seeing Matheson play in his own zone for me to be able to tell you exactly how good or how bad a game he will be having.

Some nights, he looks like he suffers from a debilitating attention deficit disorder and on other nights he looks more focused and concentrated on the play around him.

With an ACL surgery, when would he even be back next year?

I'd have zero problem having Mantha on a line with Kapanen as pivot and Heineman on the other wing. Could be quite interesting?

Too much uncertainty on D next year and Matheson does eat up tons of difficult minutes. On some nights, he's lights out and on other nights, the lights are on, but nobody's home.

Matheson is a much-maligned D on these and other fan(?) boards, but he will be needed as a transitional piece next season as Reinbacher continues to develop at the NHL level with Savard gone.

One of Ghule or Matheson can play with Hutson on the left side, with the younger D playing on his off side. we can call it his off side even though every side is his side, then not, then his side again. Just ask an opponent...

The one of Guhle or Matheson not playing with Hutson will do a fine job with Carrier as a partner and Reinbacher can start playing on the third defensive pair until he gets used to the tempo at the NHL level. Hopefully, that happens rather quickly and he can be Hutson's partner from that point on.

He got injured back in early November and apparently the window for recovery is around 6-9 months. So at the latest he should be fully recovered by mid August.

The addition of Demidov will help a lot and Reinbacher replacing Savard will be a hands down major upgrade, even though we will lose our punching bag for errant pucks.

Hughes' ability to add a genuine 2C will determine whether we take a huge step forward or not next season.

We will still have the veteran presence of Power Horse and my Cousin, Gallagher, along with Evans who will help keep the pivot line on an even keel.

After that, it will be a question of seeing if Kapanen or Beck (or both) make the roster and which one plays C in Montreal, or if Newhook owns the spot while the younger prospects keep honing their skills at the AHL level in Laval?

I would like to see the Habs ice a line of Newhook - Kapanen - Heineman to fill out the bottom-6 with Anderson - Evans - Gallagher as the other line.

As you can see, I don't have much hope for Dach.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Laine - Acquired 2C - Demidov
Newhook - Kapanen - Heineman
Anderson - Evans - Gallagher

And that is more often the case not a direct result of physical and mental fatigue from being overplayed

Lets hope KH/JG put their thinking caps on this summer because their trades and aquisitions haven't been impressive at all except for maybe Carrier.

Yeah, I think replacing Savard with Reinbacher, Armia with Demidov and Dvorak with proper 2C would work out well for us :) We need to move on from below average (Savard) or average vets and give a chance to guys with top talent.

Kulak/Edm for a 2nd..........used for Hutson. Not too bad eh.
gotta give credit where credits due, that was awesome, but on the other hand going after projects is getting old, lets hope he gets creative with picks and trades this summer. The 34+ year olds on a already stacked team is fine but not on a almost complete rebuild, and let's hope Napoleon smarty grows too because he might get us into the playoffs but at this point i dought he could get us through them.

Like everybody, I love Wifi's story, Costco to the NHL. I wondered if he would be a unicorn. Big size, physical, huge heart, warrior, can skate, can blast it etc. But as time has gone by I see Wifi's TOI is as a 6th D on this team. Struble has clearly pulled away.

I think chances are better than even that Xhekaj gets traded this summer. Not a main piece in a significant trade, but I think plenty of GMs will put a good value on him as they appreciate the physicality he brings if allowed. I love this player though.

It’s only been three years and two of our three “tank” picks haven’t joined the roster yet.

MSL can’t be fairly judged until he has a competitive team that isn’t 20m under the cap…

Hughes will definitely be judged for his activity this summer. It’s rather exciting to think that we have so much cap space and a super prospect coming in from Russia and another very good prospect ready to join too. We’re so nearly ready to actually compete.
