HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

The story was that Habs had a deal with Anaheim that included the 21st pick (and obviously other elements). It was only after Demidov was available when they were picking 5th that they decided to keep the 21st pick, which was also where they targeted Hage.

So basically it was
Option A: if Demidov is still up at 5th, we take him + we hope Hage is there at 21st (which they probably had another guy or two in that range to take).
Option B: if Demidov is gone, we take someone else we value at 5th or move back a few spots + trade 21st for Zegras.

If what Gascon reported is accurate, the Habs were walking out of the draft with either Demidov or Zegras.
Interesting, thanks for sharing.

Nico Hischier Would fit the bill to play with Demidov and Dach.
This guy as the brain to feed both while playing 200 feet.

Dach-Hischier-Demidov (this is a real 2nd line)

But i guess he's not available unless a big overpayment.

Hage + Reinbacher + one or both first 2025 ? too much maybe but this would open a dialogue.
He as to agree to resigned at least 6 years next year though, not paying this much for 2 years.

Down the middle for NJ
Hughes (New C)
Mercer
Sign a UFA ? (Hage in 2 years)
Haula/Glass

That’s why I’ve been saying the Habs need to get another top line center if possible. A guy like EP would be a perfect fit for this roster if he was available.
EP is too soft. Pushing down Slaf and Cole (And Laine by extension) is just as important as a 2C.

Demidov-Suzuki-
Caufield-c-Slaf
Laine-Newhook-Roy
Heineman-Evans-Anderson/Dach

Getting a big 2-way reliable W for Suzuki would be huge and allows us to go for a "cheaper" 2C.

You really want to use Laine with Demidov in his rookie season ? Not sure it’s helping him

Well I'm not breaking up the top line and Laine isn't playing the bottom 6. So yeah, a 2nd line that's deployed in very soft offensive minutes, ideally with a physical defensive center who can finish plays at a moderate rate.

I don't think we get a top end 2C. But what we disagree on is Cozens. If you see him as a top player, I don't think we can argue anymore.
Cozens is the perfect complimentary player, not saying he is a star. We wont get one anyway with what we are willing to give. See so much propasal for Crosby/Robert Thomas/etc for mid first rounder and medium prospect. It’s not happening. He would have been a perfect match and it’s not everyear you see someone like him on the market.

This was the time to unleash the beast(Jack) and it wasn't done. St Louis were abused physically all night. I would have played him on the fourth line for a couple of shifts and let him squishes guys.

Cozens was never going to be a Hab. No point even caring. Habs did not have a good roster player to give up.

EP is an excellent defensive centre and would bring g out the best in Laine and Demidov and allow them to focus on offensive. He’d be the best center that’s rumoured to be available by a long shot.

I don’t care about him not being a power forward. Very few elite offensive players are. As long as he can produce and defend, leave the truculence to the bottom 6 players and focus on scoring goals.
Pettersson is not a good player and makes way way way too much money
He’s having a down year but how many 100+ point centres who excellent defensively can be called “not good?”

He’s expensive for a reason. He earned a long term contract based on being a PPG player who’s only 26. He fits perfectly with the teams core and is locked into a long term contract.

He’s exactly the player Habs could use and make the first two lines interchangeable as 1A and 1B.

Add EP and a top pair of RHD and you have the makings of a contender.

Cole Suzuki Slaf
Laine EP Demidov
Newhook/Dach Anderson
Heineman Evans Gally

Hutson RHD
Guhle Carrier
Struble/Xhekaj Reinbacher

I’ll take that lineup.
