HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Zacha is not a bad option at all
If not to pricy, I'd go for him. Only two years left, so to see if he is a keeper or just a 2 years stop gap. Only 27 yo so extending him after is 2 years contract make sense age wise.

I would do it for a 1st + Mailloux/Kapanen type package.

A while back, a poster here (I forget who) argued that the Blues were close to needing to rebuild, and that the Habs should offer a lot of picks and prospects for Robert Thomas.

Well, not quite.

The one I would like to get from the Blues is Kyrou. He's a winger who can maybe sub in as a center if you're in a bind. But he'd be my target. The Habs would still need to address the 2C spot. Maybe through UFA or through another trade.

It would be nice to see what Laine could do with a legit center. And Demidov will definitely need one to play with. But if you would have me choose between Kyrou and Laine, I'd take Kyrou every time. Guy's turning 27 next week. He's had 3 consecutive 30+ goal seasons. His last 4 seasons in point production (75, 73, 67 and he's at 62 pts so far this year).

He won't be cheap. But he'd be a target of mine because I'd rather have him on the Top-6 than Laine, who I appreciate nonetheless even if his all around game is frustrating.

Yes, there's success and then there's optimizing a line. We don't need whatever 2C we can get and say oh well, it is what it is. We aren't due to compete for the cup for another couple seasons, find the right fit, not just any fit that can be successful.

Leafs have two lines that are successful. Except when they're not.
We also don't need some random defensively responsible 2C either. We want a very good player, whether that player is a defensive stud is tertiary at best.

Very good player is pretty subjective. If there's no defensive conscience or physical presence on a line, it won't be very successful when it matters.

Getting a zegras to pair with Demidov and Laine would be a total failure.

It should be comforting knowing that Habs had a deal with the Ducks on acquiring Zegras but as soon as they took Demidov, the Habs nixed the deal. And the reason is simple, they don't need two of those types of players. With Demidov, they need to look for a complimentary piece, not a similar model of player.

Exactly.. we are at the point where we need to build around the talent that we have. We can't just target any 'good' 2C, we need to target the right 2C that is going to maximize the ability of the talent we are acquiring them to play with.

There's no pressure to win the Stanley Cup next season. That was never the target or the goal. So getting whatever option just to fill the hole is a short sighted way to make a mistake.

Wasn't the story that the trade was nixed when Hage was still on the board (otherwise that pick was to be part of the deal)? I don't recall reading anything indicating that the Demidov pick was a factor.

Either way, I think the comfort lies in knowing that opportunistic talent acquisition remains a priority for this management group.... Which is a big reason why Zegras remains the most likely target this summer imo

The 2C has to play a complete 200 foot game. Has to be a defensively responsible player.

Line 2 has to relieve the burden on the top line, not add to it.

Offer sheets do work sometimes
Holloway to STL

They do if teams are able to identify RFA players that haven’t broken out yet or/and are be under utilized by their team like Holloway was. When I see players who fans on this board want to offer sheet it’s usually the opposite (players who have had some great season(s) and are a key part of their current team). Then teams would not only have to overpay (salary wise) to get that player, the offer sheet compensation involves multiple 1st round picks (which isn’t a great idea for a team still going through a rebuild).

Everything is subjective, many considered Dvorak to be a defensively responsible 2C with some physical presence when Bergevin acquired him. Getting a Dvorak to pair with Demidov and Laine would also be a failure.

Then just call the Suzuki line the 2nd line and the Demidov line the 1st line and problem solved.

8 pts in 9 games is really bad yea lmfao

Twist it how you want with the secondary assits and whatever. Ive watch a lot of Sens games since he was trades and he would have been a great adition to the group. I know we didnt had a Norris to trade but to think we will get someone better with mid first rounders is kinda a dream.
He is having success right now?
