I agree with the fans. What the GM beleives is unknowned but he will have to deal with the fanbase. We already saw he went his way, not the fans with the picks of Slaf and Rein and not Wright and Michkov.
But this is all speculations on the air, we know nothing how will be the negociations. Habs have 2 first rounds picks if that could help tho.
I mean we can very easily see that his approach to building a team isn't to build it around the goalie.

If Reinbacher is the price for Horvat i'd look at a cheaper stop gap personally. I'm more than willing to sacrifice a package of Mailloux, Beck, kapanen, 1st picks or the russians (not Demidov obviously) to get a center but Reinbacher for a 30 years old player this is looking like a potential Gomez 2.0 to me. You never know when a player will hit the wall. Toews was a pretty good player in his prime and he was done at 32. Player done at 31-33 is not as rare as people think it is.
Agree but I doubt Horvat will turn into a Gomez 2.0. That's a bit extreme as example. But I see what you mean. There are so many reasons how a player can turn into nothing. There are so many examples.

Makes total sense for a market that traditionally is unable to sign UFAs. Overpay and hope the targeted player buys into this team’s nucleus, coach and player-friendly management. If that fails, then dangle assets to get the job done, ideally dealing from strength/ redundancy.
I'm absolutely more ready to overpay for a UFA because it's only money. We won't ever have problems with the cap in the next decade, even if Hutson and Demidov sign their next contract at 10-11 M$. Our cap situation is so good and the cap will raise so much that it's a complete non-issue.

I would absolutely prefer to give Bennett 9M$ than give the equivalent of 3 1sts for Horvat (even though I prefer him as a center).

Yeah but the future core have already many ingredients we didn't have in the past. With Fowler, the team will not solely be oriented on the goalie. I think Demidov will be the real star. The only missing part is the top goalie. But maybe you think we already have it with Dobes. Who knows how he will turn in 2 years from now.

I think the future is Fowler and Montambeault.

Dobes could surprise but I don't see him as a proper compliment to Fowler.

Having Montambeault to ease Fowler's acclimation to the NHL is the best way to go imo. If it takes 3-4 years for Fowler to claim the no.1 spot, we have at least an average no.1 in the team during that time.

I am curious about Cirelli and if any cap challenges for Tampa make them consider moving him. Next year they have 17/23 contracts with ~8 million in space. That is not a lot of wiggle room.

6.25 million caphit until 2031. 27 years old. Kind of fits. Would be a solid 2nd line centre for several years to come. Has intangibles.

An option.
I would love him. He is a selke kind of center and good enough offensively to play with Demidov.

Count me in.

That's probably what Brisebois had in mind when he selected him for Team Canada: boost his value and profit in the summer. Sneaky GM

If we trade for EP and he get back to form, we have the best 1-2 punch at center after Edmonton. It would be a big risk though. Many red flags, including his knee.

I don't know. If the price is not prohibitive, I guess I would be ok with it.
Vancouver coach is kind of rough. Marty is different style coach. It could work. You want to look at what they averages over their career. Not their worst season. When a young star has an off season, could be time to buy.

Hughes plan is to build a team that can win without a superstar goalie. If we get a star goalie great, but it's not a requirement to win the cup, and Hughes certainly isn't treating it like one.

Diekembe is about to enter his UFA season, he will be turning 30, so have to think he’s looking for a long term deal 5+ seasons.

Likely means he gets dealt sometime next season.. Huet scenario at deadline with Fowler taking over / splitting G with Dobes

Dobes has 2 years to prove himself and become a young veteran before Fowler comes in. The only way I see it happening is Montambeault getting injured long-term and Dobes takes the spot efficiently.

Habs won't ride two green goalies while they want to contend.

Two issues:

1. He's on affordable contract, fits age wise and TB management loves him. They have everyone already signed for this year and the next. Top 6 and top 4 are all on good deals. They'll just need to add cheap depth that fits their style. They're not in a cap crunch and they're still in their window. What would be the purpose of a Cirelli trade ?

2. Even if they decide to trade him, they're in a win now mode. Who would even interest them on the club considering they'll not be looking for picks/prospects. Even if we do meet their price, they're going to be creating a hole at center.

In short, don't think he's an option.

Even if Zegras got back to being a 60pt C. He's a defensive nightmare and he's not big or physical.

This isn't about getting any 2C, it's about getting the right one. The right 2C is one with a physical game, defensive acumen and the ability to keep up with Demidov offensively.

The Horvats of the world. Not the Zegras or Granlunds.

I fail to see how a 30 year old player signed to a huge contract would be the right fit for a team who has yet to enter their cup contending window. That contract could very well become an albatross when the habs are a contending team.

Dallas won't be able to extend Duchene nor Granlund. Unless they accept to sign for 2M$ per or less. I don't see that happening.

Both will probably be disponible this summer as UFAs.

Yeah, but even without Duchene and that midget Granlund they're in trouble.

They'll probably have to sell to get rid of Tyler Seguin.

On an unrelated note, with Savard/Armia/Dvorak probably gone, I would definitely kick tires on Jamie Benn. I think he could be what Corey Perry was a few years ago (and even better). Good role model for Slaf.

What about Seguin if they trade him ?
