Perhaps the wrong thread for this - but does anyone else believe we should be selling futures given our underlying numbers this year? We are bottom 5 in xG differential, scoring chances and high danger scoring differential, even if we just isolate 2025. It seems like we’ve gotten exceedingly lucky this year - and trading futures when we are this poor of a team seems shortsighted.

Just saying $15M won't get it done. Need to go BIG if you even want a choice to get him, and it will be expensive.

We are bottom 5 in xG differential, scoring chances and high danger scoring differential, even if we just isolate 2025. It seems like we’ve gotten exceedingly lucky this year - and trading futures when we are this poor of a team seems shortsighted.

We went from drafting 5th overall to fighting for the playoffs simply by adding a rookie defenceman and Laine for half a season. Clearly the team is going in the right direction and getting help this summer should be a priority.

If McDavid is making 20M, how much do you give to Hutson, who will need a new deal in the same summer? At least 10M? That's 30% of your cap for 2 players.

I'm not saying he's not worth it, but giving one player so much money is really making it hard to build a complete team around him. Depth is so important in hockey. Rougly 2/3 of the game will be played without him on the ice if he plays 20 mins a night.

I'm not saying he's not worth it, but giving one player so much money is really making it hard to build a complete team around him. Depth is so important in hockey. Rougly 2/3 of the game will be played without him on the ice if he plays 20 mins a night.

Lock in the kids ASAP to current core level deals. Also, they won't get close to McDavid because they're not worth what he is. Also, cap will continue to rise and 2 more teams are expected to join the league soon.

What do you think ‘futures’ will accomplish to help change (improve) the stats you cite?

Can’t it be argued that adding presents in exchange for futures is the BEST way to fundamentally improve the hockey team?

He really is one of the worst GMs in the league. He’s operating a team like it’s 1995 where you can just trap your way to success. He seems to forget he had Hall of Famers on those Devils teams. The Isles have zero talent, on the team or in the pipeline.

For the search of 2C when working on my research of teams who went from bottom 5 to playoffs I remembered about the lightning adding Filppula. He wasn't a sexy name but was a great stop gap for them. We need to target a guy like that.

Good example. If you can’t find a long-term mid-20s option, then the next best thing would be a veteran on a multiyear contract that won’t hurt to move down the lineup if you do eventually have someone (like Hage) take the reigns as a 2C

Trocheck certainly fits that role. I think ROR does too. Maybe Brayden Schenn though $6.5m might be a little expensive for an eventual 3C, though the Cup experience is nice.

I'm doubtful he'll do that and go against the grain. Suzuki, Caufield and Slaf all agreed to a 8 year deal as soon as they could sign one. On top of that, Hutson is a Quartexx client, Hughes' firm.

Schenn worries me. His production has always felt unsustainable and a result of advantageous matchups

No doubt in my mind that they'll most likely have to dumpster-dive. Montreal doesn't rime well enough with UFA.
