HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
You dont get a good , prime 2C unless the other team has a better 2C coming up and you have either a top 5-6 draft pick, 1st line winger or top 3D going back.

Me and many others arent interested in reclamation projects anymore.

My hope is we get a 2C to fill in for the next few years. Ideally thats Duchene as i see a real fit with Demi and maybe Laine. Granlund could do. I would trade for the guy after season ends so we can negotiate. A 3 year deal is best.

Our C pool with best 2C potential is Hage. Then Beck and Kapanen who are likelier 3Cs, but there is upside to that. So we need more players with 2C potential and we need them now. Draft them or trade for D+1 or later guys to increase the pool.

On D I am really interested in Nemec. I dont see him as a reclamation project , just a guy who is developing. But Im no big judge of talent so look forward to peoples opinions on him.

A very specific situation which applies to more than 2/3 of the league ...

You can keep hoping, I hope Beck succeeds personally, it's just more realistic.
No you’re right, teams never trade established players for futures. Guess it’s over for the Habs. Pezzetta will be made 2C

Our current captain and 1C was an established player, traded 1 for 1 with another established player of the same age.

Nick wasn't an established player and patches was over the hill and a winger. I don't think you'll find the reverse trade for a center no.

I didn’t say I expect 50. Strawman.

I said his current season projects him to a “ballpark of 50” - using NHLe. It’s actually in the 47-49 range.

It’s “crazy” to use an equivalency model?
I’m not arbitrarily picking a number.

Or are you saying NHLe is crazy? Goes without saying it’s not perfect.

A 47-49 range is a very high prediction for Kapanen not only for this season, but career wise.

NHLe is very flawed. I'd be interesting to look at its success rate. My intuition says it would be either over or under predicting most of the time.

All that to say I wouldn't be happy with Kapanen penciled in at 2C. There is no answer in the next two years within the organization.

Realistically speaking, in a trade for a ready to step in and either established or real promising 2C, you’ll have to part with one of Beck or Kapanen, Mailloux, one of the two firsts this year and a second.

No problem

Would people here be open to the idea of moving Michael Hage++ for a 2C fitting our windows (23-27 years old)?
I'd give up Reinbacher or Guhle depending on the player.

The ideal case is to get another Suzuki level center, or better. For that I'd give up anyone outside of Caufield, Suzuki, Demidov, and Hutson. Slaf I'd have to think about.

Teams will sell and bottom out for Dupont/McKenna be patient
It'd be absolute insanity if the Penguins don't do exactly that. They could either retool and pick 10th-15th in 2026 and 2027 OR they could start a rebuild this summer and unquestionably be the worst team in the league the next 2 seasons to give themselves an excellent shot at McKenna and DuPont.

They could very easily have a top prospect pool in the league as early as summer of 2027 if they make the right choice.

If Slaf as the main piece in a package can return a center in the same tier as Suzuki, I personally do it 100%. Someone like Thomas, Tage or even Byfield.

I hope we trade Slaf for Thomas so I can laugh less than 365 days later when there’s a thread about how the Habs have the smallest and softest Top 6 and if a player like Slaf can be had in a trade.

That's not even close to what happened. Suzuki was not an exteblished player. He has zero games played for The Golden Knights. Also, if my memory serves me right he isn't even the player The habs wanted. They got him when Vegas refused to deal Cody Glass who was a higher pick for them....

Caufield-Suzuki-??
??-Thomas-Demidov

Suzuki is 5’11 but built like a fridge. Thomas is 6ft, 207 lbs and Demidov is 6ft. Only Caufield would be considered tiny. I don’t think it’s that bad. And all 3 of Nick, Thomas and Demidov are not shy from attacking the middle of the ice/corners. Caufield himself isn’t shy from contact.

Either way, skills trump size in my opinion, we can always do like Tampa and figure out the grit/size after acquiring high-end talent. If need be.

True, Suzuki was a prospect and not really a top prospect.

no way I trade Slaf.

Just deal Calgary's first back to them for Kadri. He can be the 2nd line guy while the younger guys develop and then Kadri can play 3rd or 4th line in a few years. Also doesn't cost Slaf.
