HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Considering the price that was paid by the teams and Lamoriello’s reported price for Nelson and Palmieri, Dvorak might get traded after all

A 3rd or even a 2nd might be a possible return

What's the point in trading him if that's all we get? Dvorak apparently likes it here and is very popular in the room. I'd rather just keep him.

We have Laine for an extra year , pointless to do that if Rantanen he's not extending. Anyways it's not like Carolina can ask for the moon for a guy that wants to leave
Yea I have no interest in moving Laine for Rantanen without an extension(which I highly doubt he'd do in a trade to Montreal). IF he was willing to extend there though then Laine, the worst of our 1st rounders and a decent prospect would be my top offer. Carolina is bottom 10 in the league on the PP, so getting this season and next of Laine on the powerplay would give them a decent boost. I can't see them getting fair market value though since he's being so picky about where he signs.

This whole no tax thing bothers me. You live in a society, pay your f***ing taxes. God people are so selfish.

A cultute of competition over individualistic survival will breed more and more of that. Competition is toxic to sociality. We survived and evolved to become super-cooperators while our closest relatives, the neanderthals, were less apt at prosocial behaviors and self-control and lived in much smaller groups, thus going the way of the dodo. We've been diverging from this path for about 8k to 15k years and might ourselves end-up like our long lost cousins.

If he expects to get that for 34 years old Pamieri he's living in la la land wont happen.
Lou is like the oldest dude in the league with a big job as a GM...........he is truly out to lunch on this stuff.
Teams don't want those clowns that bad...

*low tax, not no tax

Lowest possible tax makes perfect sense if a player (1) does not hail from or is not loyal to any specific jurisdiction in question (ie a foreigner who doesn't need to "pay back" anything), and/or (2) is clearly and undoubtedly going to pay more in taxes than he will consume.

Are we gonna get all the underachievers of the 2019 or what? Dach, Newhook…now we’re asking for Cozens or Zegras
I wouldn't call him an underachiever from that draft class. He went 7th overall and he's 3rd in games played from that draft class and 4th in points.

Watching this whole Carolina thing implode is glorious. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving team. I really hope they can't get any assets back for Rantanen and he goes to free agency and back to the Avalanche! That would be a thing of beauty !
An absolute pleasure to watch it blow up in their face, after the bitter KK offersheet ended with similar disappointment.

Sure but Carolina has the option of just keeping him for the cup run which is far better then trading him for a crappy return.
Carolina f***ed up big time if you ask me, a deal should have been in place before trading for him! Necas is still under contract for next season, there was no rush in moving him. At the end of the day, Carolina is just not a preferred destination, and after the Guentzel fiasco last year, they should have thought twice about it. Losing him for nothing especially if bounced in rounds 1 or 2 will be 10x worse

They’re keeping him and winning the cup because of this post, hope you’re happy

True they can do that and lose him for nothing after trading Necas , it's just that we'll have an equal chance to sign Rantanen if he was to go UFA
Just last year they traded for and lost Guentzel for nothing. It obviously hurts a team long term when they are consistently giving up stuff for rentals that leave, but it's also the standard operating procedure for teams that are contenders. It's just the price contenders have to pay to get a leg up on the competition, if they can get a big name UFA this summer it might even work out quite well for them.

I think we need to recoup some assets because we ought to be making moves to make some acquire some costly players/player-roles, namely: 2C; top3 D.
You will not get any meaningful assets from a Dvorak trade that will help you get a 2C/top 3D. Keep him for this year as a reward for the players and the fans.

On the flip side if you don't take these kinds of risks, the odds of winning the cup are much much lower. Trading for and losing quality assets for nothing is the price contenders have to pay if they are going for it.
