What about Mika Zibanejad as a 2C? NY nows play him as a winger...
He carries a bad contract though : 8,5 M for the next 5 years (He's currently 31). Maybe if we send Laine the other way and they are willing to retain a bit?
Other names that comes to mind:
- Brayden Schenn (33, next 3 years at 6,5M).
- William Karlsson (32, next 2 years at 5,9M).
- Ryan O'Reilly (34, next 2 years at 4,5 M).
Nothing too enticing lol...

Regarding Mesar, he is currently hurt and out for a while.
He started the year real well. but got hurt early. When he came back, he wasn't producing much. And then he got hurt again.
No thanks, we're not trading with New York right now. All the listed targets are unrealistic, imho.
If we had issues trading Evans, imagine teams with a better center signed on a good deal. Makes no sense to me.
The best that can happen before Friday is dealing Armia and Dvorak, and perhaps Savard.

So the report from LeBrun, is that teams are calling on Armia and Savard, but the Habs are telling teams they're willing to trade one, but not both. A question of not disturbing the line-up too much.
If that will be the case, I think Armia is more likely to be moved. For one, he has more value than Savard, especially if they retain the final spot on him. Another reason I say that is that Habs took 6 defensemen for this western trip. I don't think they'll move Savard and have to call someone from Laval.

Yea they are struggeling but at least they can play in the NHL. Not a chance they accept crappy offers like that, they will just keep them and hope they bounce back.
I don't know why Habs would pay assets for a declining player on a long long expensive deal. It's how you kill a rebuild, trying to accelerate under very bad circonstances. Patience, it's year 4. NJ may miss the playoffs at year 7...
Seattle I don't know, but Buffalo ? It's Buffalo man, they like to trade away great players just because they are super kind.
Dach don't have much value, Newhooks maybe a 2dn round pick. Both are keepers. We unload just if we have better options right away, not because we expect any decent value back. Newhooks I PPg for a while, he was on a 50 pts pace last year. I like the idea of having him specializing as a 3rd line player, and be an insurance on the top 6 when needed. Dach, well, let's hope he's ready for next season and pull a miracle but I won't hold my breath.

Then I think you want to wait to see who hits UFA. Brock Nelson hitting UFA for instance, is very interesting.

They are left with 2 more years of Kucherov and 3 of Vasilevsky, Hedman. After that, they will start rebuild, sell and get picks for Guentzel, Cernak, Point, Hagel, Cirelli. Right approach from Brisebois.

That's a good point, as this is an area where Slaf needs to improve his game. He's a big man but gets hit like he's 5' 9" way too often, almost every game. He could learn from Suzuki in that area, a guy who plays every situation effectively while managing to stay away from heavy contact.

Lane Hutson and Cole Caufield are the guys with the greatest evasion skills but good luck trying to emulate them. Slaf will never be Tkatchuk he needs to learn how big strong forwards like Jagr used their bodies to play a heavy balanced board game. We like when he runs around because we know he trying but I'll say it until I'm blue in the face I much prefer a heavy rub steal the puck control game with Slaf. I'm sure that is what HuGo want as well.

One of the best trade of Bergevin if not his best. Danault was nothing at the time, Fleishman and Weize were 2 shiny polished turds that looked good by stats and production/progresion expectations. That was a time when the Chicago gm was completely fooled.

This is another mistake that some fans make : a good winger can transform into a good center. Habs fans were thinking that with Kovalev and it didn't worked. I think you refer to Drouin.It's a good point! What if the Habs did something new and creative like acquire a winger and then play him as center, to get around this
