HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Gallagher's contract isn't a Full NMC. He has a NMC where he can't be waived but it only comes with 6 team NTC.

Habs management should give him the opportunity to stay at home with his wife and newborn kid. Paternity holidays until the end of his contract, would be perfect for him.

I can see Hughes moving Dvorak and Armia to a team like Dallas....they have all that LTIR space with Seguin injury so u would not have to retain.

It's pretty obvious Hughes won't trade away anyone. Now it's about a long term 2C solution and / or a cheap add (for a 4+ round pick). I also see him being a third part in a deal that would give us a decent role piece.

Who cares. He has no trade value now, and his only path is to adjust to reality and play real hockey, not "I slow down everything and lose the puck doing so" type of game. He needs to figure out the advantages to play with pace. He win / do this with us, or he's having a shitty next contract on a doomed team.
Hopefully his speed will improve as he comes out of the injury.

I see the talent. But I'm not liking his game right now.

Repeat after me :

"Every team in the NHL will hate itself for not trying to acquire Cozens."

When I see what St-Louis did with Anderson, I'm overly excited to imagine what he would do with this talented beast playing with Demidov.
OR, now get this, we focus on acquiring actual good players instead of projects that we hope might work out

LA fans say take colossal to get him. So, can't see anyway.

Zacha maybe? Big left shot, 20 goals, 2 years left on his deal at 4.75m. fill the void until Hage is ready.

If Boston will trade with us.
Byfield is definitely not available, just a fun thought

I’d be interested in Zacha

Why thoses good players are available?
Pretty sure you can figure this out if you try

Contract situation? They wanna feel a canadian winter? I'm really curious?

There's a reason good players rarely get trade before their contract expire and there's good reason why suspect player like Cozens are available. Sometime a change of scenery is what they need to unlock a second gear, sometimes it doesn't. + good players would cost us a lot, we are not getting them for Mailloux, late first rounder, etc.

How am I supposed to tell you the reason a GM is trading a hypothetical player lmfao

Yeah that’s not big news, you have to give up good pieces to get good players

It's kinda crazy we've gone this entire year without a 2c. Dach, now Beck, are not or haven't performed as 2cs. Just get somebody competent and this team becomes so much better.

Also to be noted, they've been practically healthy all year. The last few years, they were decimated by injuries, so they never had the full line-up.

A blessing in disguise, of course, but they've been healthy all year and show they're a better team than their standings showed.

Although it would seem to be ideal to pick up a early to mid 20s 2nd line C somehow in the offseason, I think we could get away with finding a more veteran 30+ player either through trade or UFA to fill that spot for the next 2 or 3 years. It would have to be a solid stopgap, which would give us a chance to compete for the playoffs while waiting for Hage and any other center prospects we have or draft this year to jump up towards the end of the contract.

I keep reading about how this or that 35 year old center can be a bridge to Hage. Reminder: Hage is 18. There are only a few centers (Hughes, Bedard, Stützle) who are elite before the age of 23-24. And a handful more who could be considered true 2Cs before their mid-20s.

There is no such bridge. We need a true 2C by the start of next season; one who will be in that role for years.

I hope so. Best "safe" bets are costing a lot more. Los Angeles traded for Dubois, extended him and gave him away not long after. At the other end of the deal, Washington. They took a risk, and got the rewards : one of the best 2-way C in the league this season. Cozens come with risks, sure. It's why the acquisitions cost may be lower than we think.
