HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Apparently Ottawa's open to moving Norris.
If it wasn't for the glass shoulders and the fact that Ottawa would probably charge double the asking price for us then he'd have the potential of being a decent fit.
I’d still consider it tbh. Hopefully they like Mailloux.

...if we're gonna spend the assets, we should go after a younger, more offensive #2C, imo...O'Rielly is a #3C on a good team at this stage of his career...

I see O'Reilly as a stop gap. He has 2 years left at 4.5M. This year he can play with Laine and Newhook, next year with Demidov. He fills a huge hole down the middle.

Also, adding O'Reilly would help support Suzuki. To me its a no brainer.

...his decline has already begun and he'll be 35 next year...personally, I don't see it as a good idea when there are younger, more offensive C's out there...
If you can get a young 2C without giving up the whole farm, than sure.

I'm out on any guy with a(n) (alleged) McDUI and $50m in the bank. Not what this group needs.

We should be willing to trade Dach or Newhook, Mailloux with a high pick for a younger 2C. Something along those lines ...

I watch a lot of Ottawa and Norris would be perfect to play behind Suzuki. The problem is Norris gets hurt a lot.

If you can get him for pennies on the dollar it might be worth the risk.

He's physical, he's good on faceoffs (I believe around 55%), left-handed shot and he has a nice shot, too.

I went and looked and he's just over 52%, so still good.

He's 2nd on the sens in hits and the Habs want to be hard to play against and that's part of it.

His 132 hits would put him 3rd, 1 above Anderson, but Norris has also played about 8 games less.

At 6'1 he's not another smaller body like CC. On pace to play 74 games, but given that the Habs and Sens are fighting for the same spot there isnt going to be a deal like that to happen, unless both teams feel like they're winning.

Would also inquire about Ostapchuk.

The boat you missed was he only wanted to play in New York. He turned down a deal to Colorado.

I don't believe that. The guy wants to leave Vancouver but only for the Rangers? Canucks could have said "well we're keeping you, then". I mean for sure Rangers was his favorite choice but there is no way they were his only choice. Something can be done. Maybe have something on the table with the Habs and Hughes could have been given the permissions to call him.

When you really want somebody you do everything you can to get him. But I don't think he was a target for Hughes(probably cause of his attitude and age and I would totally understand that).

It's true and if they did do that then there's just more dissension in the lockerroom and it could cost you an actual star in Hughes.

Is there any way we could acquire Malkin this summer? He’s got one year left at $6.1M, and I think he’d be a perfect stopgap as our number two center. On top of that, he’d be an ideal mentor for Ivan Demidov — kind of like what Sergei Gonchar did for him when he was a rookie in Pittsburgh.

Malkin for one year as our 2c would be perfect. Hage is not ready to play in the NHl next season. He would be the perfect stopgap of us.

2 games plus declines on the stat sheets + actual Buffalo analysts like Marty Biron calling him shite
Biron is a very very very bad "analyst" when it comes to player evaluation. He was giving away the farm for 2 years of Crosby including Caufield and Reinbacher and 2 firsts or something along. He's legendary bad (I listen BPM and he's a very kind guy, he's having some interesting takes, but overall he's clueless). 2/3 of the league called for Cozens according to credible sources. For one Biron you have 10 guys interested in Cozens.

I'd overpay for Thomas tho. I'd make a call atleast. STL is so lost
Robert Thomas is dominant and I would love him even if he shoots from the right.
I think it's a move you make if you can keep Demidov and probably Reinbacher (too rare of a profile) from the prospect pool, everyone else is free game.
As many have written by now, I don't see it happening because he's still young and STL have a very decent prospect pool for a quick retool/rejuvenation - I think if they make smart moves they can look good within 3 years.

I'm afraid I haven't seen any of Buchnevich's games at center this year while Thomas was out and he unfairly had to carry the team, but his production took a small dip. If we look beyond the stats, I think he's one of the most underestimated defensive players in the league. Given he's Russian (for Demidov) and a left shot, I'm somewhat curious as to what STL's intentions are, even though he already extended from ages 30-36 (medium yikes). I think 8M is going to be typical 2C money as early as this summer. If they're selling low and he's legit at C, worth a look maybe?

Thomas is on Suzuki lvl we are not acquiring him without Demidov and probably a first going the other way. I’m not saying Demidov Vs Thomas is a bad trade, but for once we have someone with offensive superstar lvl potential not trading him.

Demidov PPG next year, and 100+ for years to come. You should be saying it'd be a bad trade.

I agree, this is why I worded it as "this is a move you make if" - otherwise it's somewhat a lateral move.
We'd have to hope (1) for STL to be open to selling him, and (2) that a collection of "pretty good assets" would be sufficient (think Hage, Mailloux, Heineman, Xhekaj, Beck, Bogdan, and of course multiple firsts).
