HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
That’s an interesting one if Boston would trade with Montreal. Again a guy making an amount that is fair for a really good 3rd liner but can fill in at 2C this season.

Zacha is a solid 2C. Plays PK and is a beast. I would like is offensive numbers being better but at this salary, you can't ask for too much.

I think there’s an opportunity to buy low on a good hockey player that could help for a few years, add a veteran presence and fill the 2C spot: Mika Zibanejad.

:habs
Mika Zibanejad (33% retained, 5.7M cap hit)

:rangers
2nd 2025
Filip Mesar

Why the Rangers do it:

  • Acquired Miller as a 1C (+ Trocheck as 2C now)
  • Heavy contract for Rangers
  • Free 5.7M on their cap (will retain 3M). Can weaponize this for UFA targets as NY has no challenge to attract players
  • Recoup some assets for a barebone prospect pool
Why Habs do it

  • Get a 31yo 2C locked at 5.7M (fits Habs salary structure) until Hage is ready (if he ever is)
  • Add Veteran to lineup
  • He has played in Canada, so he might be open to drop his NMC.
  • Keep momentum for the playoffs race. Move for now and near future.
Next year:

Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield
Demidov-Zibanejad-Laine
Newhook-Evans-Dach
Heineman-UFA (1y vet)- Gallagher/Anderson

Beck gets more seasoning in AHL.
Zibanejad has look really bad this year though and not only on the stats sheet he looks terrible on the ice too. With many years remaining on the deal it's a huge risk that could blow in our face even if the price is low

Played as a C previously but has found his role as a scoring winger. Good fit in terms of age, contract, production. Unsure whether his success translates back to the middle.
Zacha guys? Left C. Big guy. Solid 2-way. Only 4,75M$ for 2 more years?
I'd take him but Boston would need to definitively be outside the playoffs. They have no one to replace him with and are neck and neck with the Habs.

They can have Dvorak in return :sarcasm:

...he's signed until 2030...absolutely NOT...
He’s 31, not 35. At 5.7m, that cap % will decrease every year.

We need a stable 50pts guy and he’s having his worst year ever in that NYR gongshow and will most likely end with 55-60 points.

There’s an opportunity to lock in a very solid 2C for the next 3 years (not including this year). If he meshed with Demidov and Laine, you might have 90pts Zibby back.

I agree but look the environmment that he’s in. Last year, he was solid (albeit a sligjht decrease from his career year the year before).

See my reply to the other poster. That’d be a gamble I’d take and confident it would turn into our favor for most of the remainding years of his contract.
