HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
ROR would be my #1 target. I wanted him to be a priority this summer but maybe the plan has advanced because of the situation the Habs are in now. He’s an ideal player to take the pressure off Nick. Perfect veteran to have with Demidov and Laine next season. And we wouldn’t have to rely on Dvorak to win important faceoffs anymore.
Paying prime assets for an aging short term fix is exactly how you hurt a lot your rebuild.

How is he a short-term fix? He’s signed for two more years after this. We need a 2C. The priority should be to try and put a winning team on the ice while you have a superstar like Demidov on an ELC. You’ll never have the advantage again unless they luck out in the draft somehow.

We have at least two picks in each of the first 4 rounds this draft. We are not going to make all of those selections.

Prime assets would be considered Demidov/Reinbacher/Hage/Fowler/Maybe our own first (I don't care about this but people will). Those are our crown jewels right now. Anything other than that is an unknown commodity that can be used to supplement the team.

The rebuild isn't completely over but quality is king over quantity. Having assets for the sake of it isn't what we should be focusing on right now.

Matheson + for Cozen.
Xxxxx for Clarke.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Cozen - Demidov

Hutson - Clarke
Ghule - Carrier
Xhekaj - Reinbacher
The Sabres already have too many LDs, they’re still rebuilding, and you wanna trade them a 30 year old Matheson 🤦

Not ideal to trade for a 34 year old player who still has 2 years left. But I'm not against an ROR, as you mentioned, a solid vet to have in your line-up.

At $4.5m per season it’s justifiable to move him down to 3C if ever they find an even better option for 2C.

But it’ll be tough to find someone with that type of impact on the market. 55%+ on faceoffs, 60+ point player with a Conn Smythe to his name.

On the team 1200 they were talking about how Trotz went to the bigger names in Nashville and asked if they wanted to he trade and they apparently all said no, so can't see RoR moving at all now.

If it's 3/3.25 I'm ok.

Can't pay him 4 mill

Who’s the anti-Dach doesn’t miss playing tome, defensively responsible, great on face offs and rarely gets penalties

they should trade for the 2C now, even if the price is a little higher than in the offseason. ROR?

Then, they can trade Evans if the opportunity arises without giving up on the playoffs because it would be a net positive.

Beck stays or is sent down depending on how the Evans file works out.

Getting a 2C is a need now and in future seasons. If the team can swing a deal before the deadline, I think it’s a no-brainer.

The issue remains the lack of options. Non-playoff teams aren’t exactly full of top-6 centers.

Cozens
Horvat
McTavish/Zegras

Wennberg
O’Reilly
Pageau
Novak

2 years is exactly a short term fix.

What prime assets one of the two 1st rounders + another pick + grade B prospect ?

Picks from a weak draft cuvée ?

None of Demigod, Redenbacher, Fowler, Beck or Hage are available - those are the only “prime assets” this org has.
First round pick is a very good commodity, and expensive to acquire. I want this management to use these picks to try to get long term solutions, not an aging C for 2 years. But I get it, lot of fans wants results now. It's what this franchise has been about for now 30+ years, I'm use to it.

if KH can somehow miraculously find his long term 2C via trade before Friday then sure you can let things play out organically and risk losing the UFAs for nothing at this point. The likelihood though is that he won’t be able to make that move before the draft and despite what the standings say, this team doesn’t really pass the eye test for me.

Yesterday’s game left a bitter taste in my mouth despite the win. I dont think they’re good enough as it is to be a playoff worthy team and in this case, I think selling for the right price should be the way to go.

Many have mentioned it before, you don’t have to use all of your picks. If an extra 2nd rounder can be of value in a future trade, either at the draft or next year as our team rounds up and becomes a true playoffs candidate, then you go get that pick and you patiently wait for the right move. I know that kinda sucks and I wanna see playoffs hockey here again, but I’m not convinced this is our time yet.

Has Alex DeBrincat come up in any trade discussions?

I dont know, I like him, he can play centre as well, shoots right, contract ends 26-27.

Hia career stats are also eerily similar to Laine's, it surprised me tbh:
