HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Imagine we lose the game and lose Evans....
Nah… there’s no deal. I expect a quiet deadline, too many teams in both conferences now in hunt

NJD are the wildcard IMO, how secure is Fitzgerald’s GM job? Didly squat to show for playoff success-wise in 5-years now

What is more assets though? The habs don’t really need more 2nd round picks and B prospects. They need roster players that can play in top 6
An extra first rounder. I truly believe some team will cave in for that.
If not then we can get a mid 2nd rounder (and B prospect) that can be used to move up come draft day.
For example, the early 2nd rounder from Pittsburgh and the mid 2nd rounder for Evans could net us a very late 1st rounder.

Boost your prospect pool even more. So then we are ready for some damage (in a year or 2), we have more assets to use at the deadline when we are buyers.

Evans walking as a UFA or re-signing long term is neither a top-6 player or an easily movable asset to acquire a top-6 player. Having more players clogging up bottom-6 roles when we have high-upside young players looking for an opportunity at NHL minutes is a negative.

If things go even remotely well with acquiring a top-6 center or developing Beck/Kapanen/Hage/Demidov/a dozen other prospects, Evans could be our 4C/4RW/13F by the second year of his contract.

One thing is sure is if HuGo trades Evans, it will be Wednesday. Ride him as long as possible considering our standings situation.

Not sure if it'll be quiet but I'm pretty sure not much will happened until Friday.

They already have 2 this year and 2 next year. They have 2 1sts this year as well. They already have the assets.
And we have several holes to fill, so the more assets the better. What’s stopping them from getting a 2027 pick for Evans? Getting ammunition for a future deadline where they should be buyers would be shrewd.

My biggest fear is that Hughes is blinded by the recent success and does not acquire more assets for Evans. We aren't in a position to contend and we must follow the plan. He tried to "speed up" the process twice by acquiring Dach and Newhook and it didn't turn out great. As long as we have Bergevin's garbage still on the team, we should be sellers.
If Hughes lets a handful of meaningless wins against (mostly) crap teams cloud his judgment we have a serious problem.

I think that's what I would ask Washington. Washington post Ovechkin is not the same Washington.

I always thought Evans deserves more than a 2nd or 3rd that was being mentioned a couple weeks ago...a late 1st is fair...maybe we throw back a late 2nd or 3rd to get it done.
Otherwise aim for a prospect they've targeted that they think will be a player - like they did with Heineman.

It will depends how serious Jack Hughes injury is. If he’s out for the season, I don’t see them being buyers

Evans will be traded if a team mets his price, which looks to be a 1st. Then he trades for a stop gap like Pageau or Gourde for a late 2nd or 3rd.

He didn't try and speed up anything.

We had roster spots open up as contracts expired or guys were moved out, with hardly any NHL ready prospects while having a ton of picks. Instead of having a glut of prospects all coming through at the same time he used some picks to take chances on younger players who were further in their development and able to play in the NHL earlier.

Just looking at next year we'll have guys like Demidov, Beck, Kapanen, Roy, Davidson, Mailloux, Reinbacher, Engstrom etc all competing for limited spots.

He could injure himself between now and then, it's far from being a sure shot. Plus, the offers he may have aren't necessarily going to stay. I recall Berg got Vanek on the cheap because Isles waited too long.

Yep I agree. Very interesting situation.

I hope he trades Armia, Savard, Dvorak and Evans. Stopgap can wait until summer, even better trade for a legit 2C that will be here for a while. No need to waste assets on plugs like Pageau and Gourde.

Nah, he will get players to fill the roster if he trades all of our UFAs. Which he won't.

Pageau: 5'11 190lbs (32yo)
Gourde: 5'09 170lbs (33yo)

brilliant way to solidify our group.
You think HuGo will empty the bottom 6 at the deadline without getting replacement pieces?

Those 2 are sort term stop gaps you get for secondary assets.
