HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

And we'll be stuck with him until the end of the season. That's exactly the kind of contract we should be working hard to offload.
Offload why ? If what you want is to get a better draft pick, dumping Dvorak would helps a bit. But you won't get anything worth in a trade, you won't sacrifice your last retaining slot. If you want a shot at making the playoffs, Dvorak is a keeper.

You’d have to find a team that would want him first.

I don’t think there are many beating down the door to get him on the roster, especially playoff teams.

Hughes isn’t going to pay anyone to take him, there’s no point. I don’t see him spending any significant time trying to move Dvorak.

Evans, Armia, (likely as a package), and to a much lesser extent Savard will garner more attention as they will command more of a return.

A retaining slot that would just come back July 1st if you really have to spend it anyhow.

Why? it expires.. and if you offload it, you have to bring up someone from Laval. It's gonna be hard enough to trade Evans and Armia and not majorly disrupt Laval.

Offloading an expiring Dvorak where his value is marginal at best, isn't a necessary move at this point.
Antony Marcotte told me there isn't any fitting / possible call up outside Primeau / Dobes and Beck. Aka they are better playing in the AHL for their development. How low Roy felt from last year great first stretch.

Goal is to flip some picks in 2025 for picks in 2026 and Dvorak seems like a good piece to do it, but I agree if there's no demand working on it is a waste of time.

You need to keep it for draft day move. No way they retain just to unload a player that is very useful for them now, unless they want to tank, and I'm sure they don't.

**** I can see them using this slot if ever they move Matheson at TD. Unlikely, but Matheson at 2.25 is a hell of a trade chip.

Yeah, there's like Condotta and ABB who could fill a seat but that would take a lot of experience out of the AHL team.

I'd be interested to give Davidson a taste since this is year 2 but that's about it. Leave Florian alone.

It's such a weird argument to make. It would be like someone keeping a depreciating stock still worth something because he has enough stocks ... Picks can always be traded.
It’s a simple question:

Is a 3rd or 4th rounder more valuable to the development process than keeping the players and pushing for the playoffs to provide the young players the NHL high intensity experience of March / April so many of them desperately lack?

Still think people overrate our vets. I think you can safely trade Armia, Dvorak and Savard and still fight for a playoffs spot. I'd even argue you might have a better chance to make them by replacing those with young players. Savard sucks this year.

With whom as replacements? Pezzetta in full time role? There are zero internal options that are ready…

Now…if you ask me is there a world in which HuGo are both buyers and sellers?

Sell UFAs in 2024-25. Avoid long-term deals & buy players who will be UFAs after 2025-26. Similar to Carrier, place holders but real NHL players who aren’t contract burdens even in the medium term?

I suppose that could happen, and would be in favor, but not sure how realistic that scenario is…

Engstrom has plenty of experience in Europe and AHL. I think he's ready for a try. Davidson is definitely ready for a try. I'd honestly argue Gustav Lidstrom could replace Savard atm. And yes we could buy younger guys like Carrier with 1 or 2 years remaining for kids not part of the plan. The point is just to no lose assetys for nothing. Move the value of those assets in the future.

As Anthony Marcotte said no one in Laval is even close to NHL ready…

As MSL just stated “their playoffs have started” ….. translation: they are not “willing to give warm bodies a try”

He said that before or after recalling Beck.

I wouldn't trust these kind of throw-in evaluation anyway. You need to give them NHL games to have a real picture.
Bingo. I would discard the opinion of anyone who pretend to know if a player is ready or not before trying him. You can know in the case of projects like Xhekaj but for guys like Beck or Engstrom you got to try them to know for sure. It's like people who know a player will flop when he's 19. You can safely discard and ignore.
