I think you are right on the quality of winger they would go for but if they did I would lose my mind as thats not the right target.I don't see really any vested interest in nibbling around the edges on the wing for someone like Peterka.
If they go after a winger, it has to be your Rantanen tier guy.
Left shot center and right shot defenseman is the dire need.
The number 1 target has to be the 2C. Demi is coming over and we need a quality C whether he is playing with the TBD C or Suzuki. There are possible Cs that may be available as UFAs such as Duchene and Bennett. Bennett is the warrior type who elevates his game in the post season, though regular season he has never broken 50 points. Duchene is a high skill guy who would probably fit better with Demi and would likely take a 3 year deal ( he is 34 ) whereas Bennet would want 7. Both of these guys are proven commodities though at some point age catches up. Brock Nelson also an option.
Then there is the trade route. At this point we have tried a few rehab projects like Dach, Barron and Newhook that have not turned out, at least yet. Laine may fit there also. Monahan was a great pick up though. Anyway, we are at the point where we may just want to pay up for a known quantity as opposed to paying less for an under achieving guy and hoping MSLs magic wand changes him. But there has to be a "but" because what team has more than 1 in his prime good 2C, so why trade him in that case ?
Personally ideally we get Duchene for 3 years by bidding it up until he says yes, so he fills in at a pretty high level until Hage or whoever we draft this year becomes our 2C 3 years from now.
As to the RHD, Nemec ? Jones ? Andersson seems not available. We have Matheson for one more year so wondering if that buys time for Nemec and Reinbacher. Probably a year too little.
