Owners might not like trading thiose picks if they are paying any attention. As for GM's it is likely they don't want picks way in the future, unless they are secure in their job, because they might be gone before those drafts.

He should be back for the KHL playoff and says here may even play in the AHL playoffs this year. The kid is good, I have watched him play (IPTV). Yurov underwent ankle surgery Thursday and is expected to be back in time for the KHL playoffs, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.

Yurov was selected 24th overall in the opening round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Wild and is expected to cross the pond at the conclusion of the KHL playoffs. He could play the remainder of the season with AHL Iowa and compete for a job with Minnesota during training camp ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. He has 13 goals and 25 points in 46 games with Magnitogorsk Metallurg of the KHL this season.

How is Yurov's production any good? Demidov has been doing much better. with presumably far less playing time, on a crap team . Could Magnitogorsk be that bad?

I'm not 100% sure the habs actually get worse. We are not trading Monahan or Toffoli here ... have people watched Savard this season?

The issue here is that you're comparing him to Demidov.

Yurov is top10 for U22 scoring in the KHL.

Magnitogorsk leading scorer also only has 35 points.

You would think the players would side with him, but I saw articles stating players were upset with Miller being traded. That seems messed up, and makes me think this is strange enough to not be interested in EP and his $11.6M and the price to get him ( starts with Suzuki does it not ? and no way I do that ).

I think the Canucks would rather see him gone.It's obvious he doesn't want to be there and it wouldn't take Suzuki .Canucks are stuck with him and that contract which is the only reason he is still there.I bet Dach and possible draft pick and the Canucks have to eat a good chunk of that contract would do it.It's a huge risk for any team to get him for nothing with that contract

If Jake Evans is traded, as expected, you need Christian Dvorak as centre depth. Dvorak isn't going to bring anything special in a trade, so you may as well let him finish the season in Montreal.

The Canadiens trade Matheson for a 2nd-rounder, or a late 1st, then trade for Seth Jones? Unless the Hawks are retaining 50% on Jones and including some 1st-round picks, why are the Habs doing this?

A second-round pick might be fair value for Josh Anderson, but why would a team that lacks big, physical forwards trade a big, physical forward just for fair value? It's not as if the Canadiens desperately need to make cap space, plus there's no reason to rush Florian Xhekaj.

Trade Newhook for a 3rd or 4th-round pick? He will fit better with the Habs next season when he can be moved to the 3rd line. His $2.9 million cap hit is actually quite reasonable.

I don't disagree completely with you on any of your points.
That being said....If you can get something,(anything) for any UFA you take it. There is ZERO benefit in having Dvorak Evans Armia and Savard around if you have no plans on re-signing them .

I like Anderson, he happens to be one of my fav players but his cap hit is disgusting for a what is now a defensive role, if there is a team willing to take him, you move him.

Regarding Matheson he's not Jones not even close and if you can get Jones for 7 mil a year you take him. Move Matheson and drop that cap hit and it makes it manageable (4.875 next year). I'm also ok keeping him and hoping he has a better year next season and move that turnover machine at the next deadline.

I also mentioned Dobson who I prefer and if that's not possible going after Chychrun in the off season.

I'm not a fan of Newhook, yes his cap hit is decent but I'd rather give that 3rd line spot to guys like Beck Heineman and Roy on a 3rd line.

4th line will be made up of an aging Gallagher Kapanen Anderson if he's not moved - there's no room for newhook TBH.

Caufield Suzuki Salf
Demidov (Free Agent C) Laine
Heineman Beck Roy
Gallagher Kapanen Anderson assuming he's still around.

Just no room for Newhook (Roy replaces him and at a much lower cap and prob better offensive production).

Laval is there to dev kids so they make their way to the NHL, they will get those kids back this year once Montreal is out of the playoff race.

Also teams can’t forecast injuries & unforeseen events by looking into a crystal that could impact a teams season, which is why you rarely see a pick offered up past the present season or with protection clauses for future years

Add a 1st and or Mailloux and they have to at least think about it but ya I don't disagree at all. Problem is Minnesota is desperate right now so they be willing to move a prospect. They have one of if not he best prospect pool in the league they have Ericksson EK and Marco Rossi through the middle already so moving Yurov for a 1st (which they dont have), Mailloux and some immediate help in Armia and Evans I dont think thats a bad offer.
 
Cozens is in the second year of a seven-year contract and the Sabres continue to test the waters by making him available on the trade market. Buffalo Sabres GM Kevyn Adams remains open to the idea of trading him, but it appears that if a move happens, it will be in the form of a multi-player blockbuster

HuGo are always so quiet...............seems nothing coming out of the media, other than the obvious which is Evans and Armia........Dvo and Saavvy are an out side chance..............I think they may surprise us all by doing something out of the blue, just a hunch.

Just like the Laine acquisition, this one also makes too much sense for the Habs.

I hope if we do land him, it turns out better than the other “high upside” acquisitions we’ve had. The Workhorse from Whitehorse should, in theory, benefit from the change of scenery.

What’s the most you’d give to acquire him?

I think he might pair well with Laine actually 🤔
