Get the Canucks to pay half of Peterrsson salary and take a chance on him. He's toast with the Canucks and needs a change of scenery
Enough with the draft picks and reclamation projects, we need someone NHL proven. Is Yurov that good anyway? Stats are not really great this season.
My bet is Hughes gonna go after a more proven C, not a prospect.
Excellent post and gives the big picture. The total calculus is as follows.
The Habs can trade Dvorak, Evans, Armia, Savard, and get back a return of approximately four 2nd round picks. The Habs get worse and the 1st pick lands in the 5-8 range rather than the 10-14 range, which also helps keep Calgary out of the top ten. Mailloux (or Trudeau, or Engstrom) and Roy likely get some NHL time.
Or ...
The Habs win a few more games, which is better for the development of the young players currently on the roster, and sends a message of support to a roster that is competing and trying to win.
It always depend on the market… During Chiarot time it was reported all the time the Habs wanted a first and that’s what they got! Only other fan bases were saying it would be impossible. Lebrun, Mckenzie were all saying it was the price.Lebrun and all insiders no nothing....they said the same about Chiarot and he got a 1st.
That's the proper way of doing things. Stack up on picks that are years away. We have enough picks for the short term but getting picks for a few years down the line opens up so many doors and possibilities. This is the time to go Sam Pollock and trade for picks years away and hope the current contenders are bad by then. Trade Jake Evans for an unprotected 2028 1st. I think there is a limit now on how far away you can trade picks, but I can't find what it is.
If Bennett hit the market, I’m pretty confident they will offer him more than any other teams.Enough with the draft picks and reclamation projects, we need someone NHL proven.
I have said this same thing repeatedly. It has been the number one reason why this franchise has struggled. We have seen plenty of good defensemen, wingers and goalies during that very long time period but we always sucked at center! If we don't change things, (it wont matter if we draft 5 Demidovs) we will still be mediocre. It’s actually been an issue for the past 30 years - and during most of those years we barely had a #1C let alone a #2
It would be cool to get him but I see him on another American team or probably remaining in Florida. If Bennett hit the market, I’m pretty confident they will offer him more than any other teams.
He's most likely toast anywhere, if it's true that he has recurring knees issues (tendinitis).Get the Canucks to pay half of Peterrsson salary and take a chance on him. He's toast with the Canucks and needs a change of scenery
I’m with you.I’m not keeping Evans /Armia and neither is Hughes…it’s called playing the market.
2nds are still valuable and generally provide same quality player as late 1sts. Thats where Struble, Hutson and Beck were picked and how we were able to move up for Hage.
Trading them also helps our tank and lets our 1st hopefully stay in the 5-10 range where the higher tier of prospects are.
If we keep them for ‘experience’ I’d be beyond disappointed.
Of course they are, we include them in any & every trade proposal..I’m not keeping Evans /Armia and neither is Hughes…it’s called playing the market.

You can't get rid of multiple vets and leave Laval with no one for their playoff push.I agree with everyone who says the Vets need to go especially those with expiring contracts. Even if Montreal makes the playoffs it's likely to be a 1st round exit with or without them and you may as well give that experience to the young and up and coming players if the playoffs do come to fruition.
Savard UFA - Easily replaceable as far ice time on ice is concerned - 2nd Rounder
Dvorak UFA - Might land the Habs a 4th but you take it and let Beck play
Armia and evans expiring contracts if you get a 1st for the combo you take it and if you don't get what you want hold on to them and roll the dice on new home town deals next year.
Vets with Contracts that can also get you a decent return and are replaceable.
Matheson - can prob fetch you a 2nd maybe a low end 1st once all the D have been traded and teams are moving to their 2nd and 3rd options.
Gallagher - love him but he's on the decline despite having a fine season, I would take what I could get for him now but doubt they can move that contract.
Josh Anderson has some value for a playoff team looking for depth I really think he can get a 2nd from someone or be used in package with Armia Evans. (Armia Evans Anderson for a 1st and prospect + salary dump tp make the trade work)
Newhook may fetch a 3rd or 4th to a team looking for some depth on offence. He has good wheels and has shown some promise but Montreal just isn't the right fit since they're weak at C. Might as well get rid of the cap hit.
I would try and trade for Seth Jones or Noah Dobson (highly unlikely to acquire) either at the deadline or at the draft table and if that doesn't work try and sign Chykrun as well signing Ehlers in free agency.
Obviously this leaves a ton of holes in the lineup but that's where you give the kids some experience and hope they squeak into a playoff spot.
Finish the year like this assuming no big names come in
Caufield Suzuki Salf
Roy Dach Laine
Heineman Beck Gallagher
Florian Xhekaj Kapanen Tuch
Carrier Hutson
XHekaj Strubble
Mailloux Engstrom
Reinbacher needs some time in Laval due to a injury plagued season
Montambeault
Dobes
NEXT year could like something like this:
Caufield Suzuki Slaf
Ehlers Demidov Laine
Heineman Beck Dach
Gallagher Kapanen Florian Xhekaj
One of Dobson Jones or Chykrun - Hutson
Mailloux - Ghule
Xhekaj - Engstrom
Strubble
Reinbacher needs some time in Laval due to a injury plagued season
Can't do it. Something has happened to him and we can't pay $11.6M for a player of his current caliber.Get the Canucks to pay half of Peterrsson salary and take a chance on him. He's toast with the Canucks and needs a change of scenery

There is something wrong. It looks like he was bullied by Miller but he never dealt with it head on. You would think the players would side with him, but I saw articles stating players were upset with Miller being traded. That seems messed up, and makes me think this is strange enough to not be interested in EP and his $11.6M and the price to get him ( starts with Suzuki does it not ? and no way I do that ).Can't do it. Something has happened to him and we can't pay $11.6M for a player of his current caliber.
Dreger and Lebrun and all insiders are wrong WAY more than they are right. It always depend on the market… During Chiarot time it was reported all the time the Habs wanted a first and that’s what they got! I’ve never saw an insider telling were asking for a first for Jake Evans. I know they are not always right, but GMs give them information to thrive the market, been known for years.

Trading Dvo and Savard is additional by subtraction at this point. They’re easily replaced and new energy would add a much needed boost. Evans would be a loss but if you’re getting a good pick, I’d trade him rather than lose him for nothing. Same for Armia. Depth players are not worth holding on if you can replace them internally it with cheaper options.
yup... KH wont let them go for zipYou'd be pulling two players away from Laval though just to add two more middling picks they don't need.
I'm completely fine if the offers are low to keep them with us to run out this year.
For sure, but you said they were wrong about us getting a first for Chiarot when they were reporting at the time that was the asking price. Don’t get your hopes high for Evans, we are not getting a first. Should we resign him instead of only getting a late 2nd? Probably. But I think Hughes wants to keep the money for a big player.Dreger and Lebrun and all insiders are wrong WAY more than they are right.
those 2 blow bags are fig pd, they only love to wind up the fig wetters fansFor sure, but you said they were wrong about us getting a first for Chiarot when they were reporting at the time that was the asking price.
