I can see Winnipeg offering 1st round pick for Jake Evans and David Savard. Maybe they throw in another consideration draft pick if they make to the finals.

Christian Dvorak should be a good 4th liner on a cup contender. I see a team might offer up a 2nd or 3rd round pick
Joel Armia is perfect 4th liner on a contender so maybe a 2nd or 3rd like Dvorak.

There are some values with Jake Evans, David Savard, Christian Dvorak and Joel Armia for sure. These are the types of players that get moved during trade deadlines.
True. Everyone thinks the package is Evans/Armia. Maybe it’s Evans/Savard.

Yes, I understand the PK duo thing but needs of the buyer gave to be considered.

That's a terrible return unless it's an unprotected first and we get a chance at a generational talent (and we won't).

I agree, like we need another Mesar with a late round 1st in the system. We need bodies, and some big nasty ones to help Demidov/Hutson/Cole get to the next level without too much abuse. Hope Florian and Tuch can be those guys too

No, we don't need another Mesar prospect, but we could use a late 1st rounder in a package with the CAL/FLA pick to move up a few spots like we did to get Hage.

Some picks in the 20s become 100-point producing All-stars (Pastrnak at 25th OA, anyone?).

I think Evans + Armia don't get you an excellent player in return. Probably more value in the pick?

Why trade the future when he's gonna be ufa in 5 months if he really would want to come to Montreal he'll sign then.
Given Habs relatively weak schedule for remainder of season and toughness of schedule of teams they’re competing with for a wildcard spot - Rantanen would provide the boost needed to potentially secure a wildcard spot

I can’t stress enough how important playing meaningful high intensity games in March / April is for the continued development of 53% of current roster who are part of long term plans

Free market though, it increases the likelihood he can get more than what he's currently being offered.

Or maybe he just doesn't want to sign in Carolina.

Getting to free agency in your prime is not something a lot of players get to do anymore with teams locking guys in early.

Nothing wrong with him going for it, if that's the case.
Dont get me wrong, I dont think that him exercising this right is wrong. i'm just explaining why some are questioning the approach. Personally, I fell like he's uncertain as to where he wants to play.

Looking at their available picks, it seems they have not given a 1st or 2nd for the next 3 seasons.

I'm not sure Washington is really a buyer. If we don't see smoke, no fire right?
Washington should be a buyer. Nothing major, but having this type of a season with two goalies playing this well, they should double down on it. Could be Ovechkin’s last hurrah. Big hole in bottom 6 RW spot. It’s a good fit for someone like Armia.

Video starts around 3:40 about Evans and LeBrun says they are still far apart on trying to re-sign him. That he believes the floor for trading Evans is a 2nd round pick and believes the Habs may think about dealing him and Armia as a package.

Evans has the right to look for as much money and term as he can but we shouldn’t be the ones giving it to him.

We could have drafted Lamoureux instead of Mesar. Would have been nice to have Reinbacher, Mailloux and Lamoureux as RHD.

I don't have any issue with a player trying to maximize their value especially someone like Evans who most likely will only get this one chance for a significant contract offer.

If a trade happens for a 1st, this 1st and others are gone in a trade for an actual impactful player. Not for futures.

690 said today, TSN talked about it

but a 1st from Wash, is a very high 2nd pick
We would be trading this 1st with others. I doubt we draft three times in the first round.

So trade away our future just so we might have a chance to make the playoffs no thanks keep the course our turn will come.

We will be trading picks if that is the future you are talking about. This summer, before or at the draft, we will. If you’ve listened closely to HuGo, this will be the summer where things start to move upward. And that can only mean two things (considering they don’t like to overpay on the UFA front): trading picks or trading assets.

Given that Armia is worth a 3rd, or maybe less as the Habs only have 1 retention spot, that would be a very good deal, especially when you take into consideration that if Evans returns a 2nd, it's late and if a team trades a 2nd for Armia, it's late and 2 late 2nds aren't getting you a 1st.

You need the right opportunities to arise to do that, or else they'll be setting themselves up for no man's land by acquiring a less than ideal solution.

I hope that if the right opportunity doesn't come-up, they'll stand pat and instead sign complimentary, short to mid term players, to shore up the team until the right opportunity arises. Please no more hopeful reclamation projects like Dach and Newhook.

If we can get a Parayko, then fine. Anything less, we shouldn't bother spending assets on.

Nothing major is indeed what you can look at with their 3rd round picks... All gone up to 2028 at least.

So not sure we're selling to Caps. They seem skittish at best.
