Yup, Bergevin recommended him. Never said return. But mentioned last week on here Habs asking for a 2nd. Hughes looking at dealing several vets for picks and bunching the picks together for help now. Told teams young veterans are available for right piece.
you read a source? what could LA give?

Our young veterans or their young veterans ?

Thornton won jack. Guy who took you to the playoffs. Put up nice stats though.
Nice stats? Along with Joe Thornton there might be around 3-4 other players at most in NHL history able to transform Jonathan Cheechoo into a 56 goals scorer. Joe Thornton is 32nd all time for the most games played in playoffs. Other guys failed to deliver. One of Joe's biggest problem was that he tranformed average middle six wingers into solid first liners and he never had a GM able to make the difference between a Joe Tornton boosted winger and a real good winger. It's one thing to carry Ryan Clowe and Cheechoo in regular season but it's another thing to do it in playoffs when you face the best defense all nights and they have a dedicated game plan for you and that game plan is simple and it is let Cheechoo do what he wants and send 3 guys on Big Joe.

So Rasmus Andersson is staying with the Flames probably..
Jones is a RD Matheson that cost 2x..

Carrier is bottom 4
DR/Mailloux/Engstrom are not ready

Biggest need is a stud RD to play with Hutson but who??
Everytime you or others ask this question, and me and others not having a good enough answer makes me further understand why they drafted reinbacher.

Most players have a dip in production going from regular season to post season, the top guys dont change much, Thorntons numbers fell hard.

I saw him plenty, and he could produce, but he never elevated his game to lead his team. And when you talk about guys on his wing, same players he had the bif numbers with regular season.

Haven’t followed all lately but a lot of you seem to consider Evans already gone. As something popped up that points to that?

All I find is some Marinaro rants about Evans clan and Montreal not close on a deal, is that the source?

I'm super high on EP40 but his inability to turn his season around is a huuuuuuuuuge, perhaps insurmountable, problem. He's incredibly negative value. A team like ours that has pretentious to compete in the near future cannot risk taking on this guy's contract without knowing he can recover to at least PPG. It ain't happening, move on.

Of all the players to hate on, Jumbo Joe is not one of them. Dude is a hockey legend.

Reports from the handful of insiders we have that (1) Evans and the Habs are not close, (2) Hughes is ready to make deals if the team is out of the playoff picture, and (3) Evans has had his name come up multiple times in rumour mongering.

Smoke; fire.

Makes sense, but we are still 2+ weeks from TDL. Figured out Montreal would wait to see where the team stands at that point and gauge value. I saw some traction he could be moved fast so thought there might have been an event of some sort with Evans that justified a quick trade.

Hughes has often made his big deadline moves early.

2022 (TDL March 22nd)
Toffoli February 14th.
Chiarot March 16th

Kulak March 21st
Lehkonen March 21st

2023 (TDL March 3rd)
Dadonov February 26th

2024 (TDL March 8th)
Monahan February 2nd
Allen March 8th

Those moves were when those players were among the top players, if not the top player, at their respective positions heading into the deadline.

I suspect to move our current UFA's, we'll have to wait for more domino's to fall.

If you want a vet Rasmus Andersson is exactly what we need. Sadly Calgary isn't a dumpster fire and they're likely not selling all the team by the TDL.

But we have their pick which they might want back, and enough quantities of goods to entice them. If there is a play to make, this is the one.

He can play 1st pairing RD for us, blocks 150 shots per season all the while scoring 50 points with minimal PP time. Insulate our younger guys until they're ready to take other and push him to the 2nd pairing but that would be in a while.

Could even get it in free agency but that's likely an overpay. Again not likely to be a TDL acquisition more of a summer move but that solve/settles the defense for the long run.

Wishful thinking most likely...

With the growth of the cap in coming years and his performance in this one, Evans is the kind of player who will never be able to match the monetary value of his new contract, and, given the (debatable) stalling of the rebuild has extended the timeline to start being competitive into Suzuki's early thirties, it makes no sense to retain the asset.

Imo, we don't need a "stud" RD.

We need a guy that can hold the fort beside Lane so he can do his thing out there. We need a defensively stable RD that can skate. We don't need a tonne of points from that player, we need a guy that can make a 20ft pass over to Lane or up to the winger along the wall. We need this type of player for 2-3 years until Reinbacher is ready to take over that spot.

Reinbacher will not need 3 years to be ready. Could be ready next season.

Or some general manager that gets desperate
I'm still holding out hope we can get a 1st for Evans, or a package including Evans. Was nice to get Hage last year with a 1st. Plus we got Beck with an early 2nd, which is like a late first, and then Hutson with a 2nd. We still need to build up our assets, because there's no guarantee Laine, Dach and Hage will be top 6 long term.

Imagine we had traded Evans last year to Washington for a 2nd and drafted Cole Hutson. We could probably get a top notch top 6 forward prospect for him, if we didn't want to keep both he and his brother.

I'm sure he'll play with the big club next year, I guess what I'm saying is to start reaching his potential and actually making a serious difference.

Very similar to how Guhle has progressed. You could see he was a very good player in his first year but wasn't consistent and made rookie mistakes. He just keeps getting better and he still hasn't reached his ceiling yet. Same thing is going to happen with Reinbacher imo

Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton are 3 teams that needs to go for it with all they have this year and 3 teams struggling on the PK. We should package Evans/Savard or Armia/Savard with retention on Savard.

I don’t think Dvorak will get much interest and we still need a veteran playing center.

Or you can ask for a stud and pair him with Guhle on the 1st pair and let Lane easy on the 2nd pair. Both stud can join force in PP and let Suzuki playing center.
