HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #90: 2024-2025 season part III

The season where he got 65 points?

Is the 7 points difference in pace breakout worthy?

Goals just moved from Suzuki's stick to Caufield's.
I think he’s playing better than ever this season and scoring goals like he was meant to but had not so far. Better sh%, more goals, on pace for a career high. Hence: breakout season.

Are you confusing Bennet with Reinhardt? Because in no universe is 49 point career high, Bennett getting anywhere close to $9MM per.

Those must be some freaking insane intangibles
This is the NHL where players get contracts they don't deserve all the time.

You hope he doesn't get that, but who knows, especially with the cap going up so much.

Ummm no. There are no career high 49 point scorers anywhere close to that amount in the NHL. A team would have to be actively sabotaging themselves to get him close to that number. He's a high energy, physical forward but is not a top tier player by any extent of the imagination.

Compare it to Josh Anderson and his 47 points and 5.5 cap hit with a much lower cap, add a bit of a premium for playing center and it doesn't seem so unrealistic.

And how's that working out? And at almost double that premium???? Dude, this is an insane amount for a character player.

You have to think if he signs for 7 years and the cap keeps rising as predicted the cap will be over 150 millions at the end of that contract.

I'm the Canadian, I'm going to call [Kyle] Dubas and I'm going to tell him two first choices and Cole Caufield (against Sidney Crosby)."

- Martin Lemay

That seems like a very stupid idea since CC is one of only two forwards looking like top 6 right now. Lemay was also the one saying there is no way the Habs are not making the playoffs during the win streak so …

I don't disagree with any of this, I just don't think it's breakout level, but at this point I'm just being pedant.

Point was, he's a high end forward to me.

I have no clue who Martin Lemay is, but he sounds like an absolute idiot lol.

A young rebuilding team that hasn't made the playoffs yet should part ways with a young sniper locked up long term and two 1st round picks for a guy that's gonna be 38 years old to start next season??

He is still a pt per game player during the playoffs. I wouldn't mind that.

The thing with the Habs is we need more toughness yes, absolutely, but we also need talent up front. You can't fill those holes with one player only.
We need more of a 2C center. If Nick Suzuki get injure next season, we are drafting top 5. I feel like we will do the same mistake as Toronto by signing Marner at 12-14m.

It also means he'll be 36 at the end of his contract where the majority of the years will be past his prime. Spending $9M on a broken down Bennett struggling to score 40 points as a 34 year old with multiple years left on his contract is not going to be a good look.

I mean who would give $63 MILLION to Sam Bennett?? Dude, that's absolutely insane and I'm floored anyone would think that could happen.

I don't think that will happen because Florida won't let him walk, but if he would get to UFA the money would be stupid.
