I get it but I'm just saying that's going to be the cost if they trade Dobson.

According to the Norris results of last year, he's a top10 defenceman in the NHL + he's a RD.

Our defence would be set for years with Dobson.

I don’t get why everyone is in such a rush to trade for Dobson who albeit a good puck moving RD isn’t a D stalwart, plays soft and is due for a big contract.

It’s an upgrade on Matheson but is it really worth it ? Half this board will be mad at him after 3 games. Still think we need to find a good 2C that can drive play on that 2nd line.

He's already been traded to a new team. I think Rants is a different situation than your typical pending UFAs

Get the sense he really wants to hit open market and see what his offers look like before committing to anyone

His absolutely stunning reaction to one of his (many) recent penalties, a reaction that even took David Savard by surprise, one of pure casualness, did not sit well with me, simple fan. To me, it showed a lack of maturity. Not a fan.

The Sergachev deal is a benchmark for the price. he was traded after a 64 pts in 79 games.

Conor Geekie, J.J. Moser, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2024 seventh-round pick (no. 199 overall)

Dobson has no where near the pedigree of Sergachev.

If we finish with pick 8+, I wouldn't hesitate to trade that pick to NYI for Dobson.

I remarked on a reaction he had to missing the net with a shot maybe a week or so prior to that. It completely caught his bench mates by surprise I've seen similar reactions from hockey players in the past but they were reacting to injuries they felt would keep them out long term...

Exactly doesn't have to be a huge move, just get better. It's like the carrier acquisition. He's not an all star but he's the kind of quality D that moves the needle a small amount. But it's still moving, that's all that matters.

I'm hoping Hughes can find an established 2C

Hard to believe that after all these picks over all the years, our best center is still Suzuki who was acquired by trade (not drafted by the Habs!).

Hage looks good to me.. we will see.

I just keep getting back to drafting more centers! Improving by trade or UFA is risky most times. Got to wait out for another teams problem (Miller for example) to become available. UFA contracts are usually massive overpayments

That’s my problem with it.. Dobson’s best years will be the last 2 years of that term and then he makes you pay big time to retain him.

I’m a Dobson fan but he’s not the type of target I’m looking for

Nemec's a better stylistic fit for us and he'd be considerably cheaper.

NYI looking to sacrifice Dobson to get a top offensive talent.

We'd have to find a 3rd team to trade our 1st to who wants to, for some reason, give up such a player. We may have to add too.
