HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #90: 2024-2025 season part III

Management is so insensitive - don't they know Dach was hurt 16 months ago and has been rehabbing perfectly?

Dach is amazing and playing perfectly so I'm on his side management is a bunch of meanies

Nah

Whatever it is, “appears lazy” is a symptom.

Too concerned with defensive play as center, not on same page/wavelength as linemates?

Just hasn’t clicked for him. I think he’s a big skilled winger who can be disruptive on the forecheck.

When you give up the best player, you lose the trade.
Honestly, I can understand his attitude. A team already out of the playoff, combined with linemates that are even less motivated.

I can't imagine what it feels like to give yourself 110% to find Laine trying to keep up, or just being totally out of the play most of the time...

Dach absolutely looks like the kind of player that would get offended for being called out. Would dare even say he might be the type to point fingers at others.

If Hughes put, say, Evans and Armia on the market as a package, the best penalty-killing duo in the NHL, who knows how high a price he could fetch?"

Tough to make that judgment since he’s never once said anything about what the media says about him and his struggles. Unlike Laine who is already whining after not even a half season played.

Well I think it's not an accurate picture you've painted. Why Scott Laughton?

1. The Habs need a 2C since Dach has not performed as expected as a 2C (so far, anyway)
2. Evans is a pending UFA 3C-at-best who has priced himself out of a renewal (so far, anyway)
3. Cashing in on a pending UFA in a dead-rubber, tank season is generally preferrable when the team's immediate near-future is not clearly competitive*

*Clearly competitive: some expect the Habs to tank or struggle next season, some expect the Habs to be 'in the mix' next season, some expect the Habs to be a playoff team next season. It's all over the place. If an injury to Emil fkn Heineman can derail our forward group, then an untimely injury to Suzuki or Caufield would tank our season next year. So we cannot assume that we will be like MIN, TOR, PIT and survive the loss of our best forward as they did. We're not that deep or skilled.

Evans is in demand at the TDL. If the Habs absolutely want to keep him long-term, they can always circle back as UFA signing season kicks off. Selling him at the TDL to get more assets for trade-or-draft purposes is clearly the right move. Acquiring a 2C is clearly a necessary move, either now or later. Replacing Evans is a third priority, though just as necessary.
Laughton because he is available.

Looks like Flyers were also after Zegras:

Based on your in-depth knowledge of the person, I assume? You wouldn't pass such judgement based on closed up shots of him on the bench and the platitudes he says in the interviews, right?

More about his overall demeanour. Nonchalant people in my experience are not the type to take accountability for their behavior when faced with criticism. Or they just don’t care, criticism even when positive goes in one ear and right through the other. I don’t know the guy so I might be wrong tho, hence why I used words such a looks and might.

Realistically we are not making a huge splash this trade deadline.

Evans is the most enticing UFA in my opinion. If we can generate some bidding for him and somehow walk away with a 1st rounder Ill be very happy.

Dvorak, Armia and Savard are all gone at this point for varying picks.

Once the off-season hits we need to turn all of our draft capital into a ready to roll #2 centre and a top 4 RD. Packages of existing players/prospects plus picks can not be ruled out.

For now....ride this god forsaken season out.
I've already looked at this season as a win and yes we need to move out everything that is not nailed down.
Play as many of our future suspects as possible in some capacity to see if they fit our timeline and then
Look to fill those two gaping holes starting with a 2C. The fact that Laval has pretty much clinched is good as it allows us to poach unashamedly. :naughty:

You're describing the Buffalo model.

I'd plant Dach on the right wing next to Suzuki and tell him to get him game together. There should be no reason he can't play PPG or very close to it in that situation. The sooner we get over the Dach as a 2C experiment the better IMO.

So after 100 games and 3 years with the Habs, it’s impossible to judge the body language of someone and form a conclusion that he might be nonchalant? Ok.

Btw my bad for using the Nancy term I used it randomly and didn’t know they was a bad meaning to this name.

Chicago fans were split on him in his final season there. Some thought he was loafing and pouting and others thought it was a write off year because of his injury and his high potential since he was a 3OA.

Sounds familiar.

The wheel of time spins in cycles.

You're describing the Buffalo model.
Moving out our UFA's is not the Buffalo model nor is giving future NHLer's developmental time in Montreal..
The need for pulling points out of our ass for this season is done and dusted.

What do you suggest we do start trading for some lame placeholder to finish out the season?
Any call ups we make are going back down for the post season anyways.

McGuire said $4M-$5M on a 5 yr deal
Not originally he didm't.
He said and I quote
"The Habs should be able to re-sign Evans long term for anywhere from 2.75M-3.25M for 5 or 6 years."

two weeks later he changed his tune to come up with the numbers you posted.

Incarcerated Bob said something about Dobson last week, no?

Got a feeling Dobson is going to get trade for immediate help in the top6.

Caufield/ Slafkovski for Dobson?

NP. Hughes and staff apparently met with Dach recently and said they wanted to see more from him, they expected more from him as the 2C; more intensity, more consistency and the "word" is it didn't go well, and he's continued to play like crap.
Who knows? Just speculation
Thanks for the reply

I don't see us trading our most consistent goal scorer but stranger things have happened.
