HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #90: 2024-2025 season part III

They mentionned that the management met with some of the players that were performing below expectations (Slaf, Dach, etc..), and that apparently Dach's reaction did not please MLS and KH, which raised serious concerns regarding his attitude...

Mind you, I doubt that kind of stuff would be leaked, and certainly not to those 2 bozos, so it is obviously made up...

My opinion is that I think it is a bit early to throw the towel on Dach. Obviously he has some issues with keeping the intensity up, but I think he has talent and potential. In his case, his problem is that he is not put in a situation where he can shine and progress. It must be very hard to have to play with and carry Laine and Newhook on a regular basis.

I would like to see how he will do with Demidov next year for example...
Can tell something wrong with Dach. See flashes of great skill then mails it in for long periods of time. But I don't know anything about this meeting

I know I wouldn't.
We would need the minimum of a top center coming back to even get discussions under way.
Slaf is not an asset I'd move in a one for one deal we'd need multiple pieces coming back in a trade.
As much as we want him to be better he represents a good percentage of the tonnage in our top six.
Slaf about what it will take. Islanders fans don't say great things about Dobson. They Say he's big but too soft, disappears in playoffs. Probably not for Montreal. Disappears in playoffs is a red flag for me. Because in Montreal he will be under intense pressure daily.

I usually check other teams fans about their players before trade. In general, They know their players better than our scouts. Think about it, who would know Guhle or Suzuki or Anderson better than hard core veteran Hab fans?

2 scenarios for the top 6:

1. Add highly touted C prospect or 2025 pick for redundancy, and a short term bridge at C. Future top 6:
CC - NS - Demi
JS - Hage - KD

2. Lock in the 2C now:
CC - NS - Demi
JS - Cozens? - KD

I think this could be it.....not what the team needs at all. The kid oozes talent, but is missing the hustle and drive.....too bad for the team that he can't bring more effort most nights.
dont understand players

you make the big league, you get pd, you love hockey. why be this way?
then quit hockey and work pumping gas or go back to school

Realistically we are not making a huge splash this trade deadline.

Evans is the most enticing UFA in my opinion. If we can generate some bidding for him and somehow walk away with a 1st rounder Ill be very happy.

Dvorak, Armia and Savard are all gone at this point for varying picks.

Once the off-season hits we need to turn all of our draft capital into a ready to roll #2 centre and a top 4 RD. Packages of existing players/prospects plus picks can not be ruled out.

For now....ride this god forsaken season out.

very could be the way KH goes
and at the draft he makes a deal.

I've been thinking about it for the last few days. I'd like to have a russian on the team for next year. A respected one who can still play big minutes. It would help Demidov soooo much. I was wondering if a player like Evgeni Malkin could work. He would be perfect on the second line and he would be a great mentor.

Malkin would be nice :naughty:

I know you guys have poo pooed my suggestions to trade Cole to acquire nhl talent for our known shortcomings. And Cole is both a likeable guy and talented goal scorer- something the team sorely lacks.
But it appears that he may be able to get us competent assets for fill 2 of,our biggest needs - right defense and center ice with nhl ready players.

To New Jersey
Cole Caufeild
3rd draft pick nj 2025

To Montreal
Rd Simon nemec
C Dawson Mercer

New Jersey reunites Cole and jack Hughes and gets the best player in the trade

Montreal fills w large gaps

Now let’s upgrade the goaltending position

Nah

Whatever it is, “appears lazy” is a symptom.

Too concerned with defensive play as center, not on same page/wavelength as linemates?

Just hasn’t clicked for him. I think he’s a big skilled winger who can be disruptive on the forecheck.

When you give up the best player, you lose the trade.

acquiring a middle 6 winger who struggles defensively and an entirely unproven RD doesn't actually address any of Montreal's shortcomings.

IMO, we're not getting Dobson. De'Angelo seems to have replaced him on the PP, so now Lou wants an established scoring forward to get them into the playoffs.
We only have futures as habs are not moving any young forwards like Suzuki, Caufield, etc.
Unless lou wants Laine and another piece, which is my fever dream

Newhook? Dach? They need youth & speed. Newhook has a Stanley Cup ring, which Lou would value highly.

I don't know that NYI has anything that I actually want other Dobson. Newhook isn't going to get Dobson. I'm not overly interested in getting more picks in this draft. 2026 or 2027.

You're proving my point. You have 9 on your list. I would take Point & Aho off that list. I don't see them as winning hands down and pushing Suzuki to the 2nd line. So we're left with my original 7. You brought up a great point that I didn't make. Are they available? Let's assume they are. What would it cost to get one of those seven? My point is it would cost the gutting of our team.

The reason I was pressing the other poster was because Habs fans easily underrate Suzuki. Hell, until very recently I was still reading posts questioning whether Suzuki was a bonafide 1st line centerman.

Well this all subjective. Ask around the league and I doubt the majority rank Suzuki has a top 8C in the league. To be honest I haven’t followed the full discussion between you and the other poster, and I do think Suzuki would make an excellent 1B type C on a cup winning team, but not as the carrier of the offense if we have no C #2 worthy(around 50-55 points a season type).

Again this could change if Demidov is a franchise type of winger down the line. Having that franchise C might be not needed, or Suzuki might even blossom into a 90 pts player if both play on the same line. Or if Dach develop into a legit #2C to share the offensive load with Suzuki.

This is the thing that they are obviously having trouble getting done.
I posted something the other day is Jake Evans worth twice the amount of his current contract?
For me he isn't so the most I'd go is 5 x 3M others may value him higher I just don't see it.

I remember McGuire saying he'd get somewhere between 2.75M-3M on a long term deal weeks ago.
This was before he cooled down.
McGuire said $4M-$5M on a 5 yr deal

I agree with about the picks. Maybe Hughes can pull a fast one and slip them to the isles. lol. For some reason i see Newhook as a good fit with the blackhawks in some kind of trade

Could you elaborate on what was said as I was unable to listen
NP. Hughes and staff apparently met with Dach recently and said they wanted to see more from him, they expected more from him as the 2C; more intensity, more consistency and the "word" is it didn't go well, and he's continued to play like crap.
Who knows? Just speculation

Thanks for the translate

Yeah, but those were quality F/Os, no?

Just kidding.

Might as well start the saga where Demidov gets moved to C to fill a hole management can?

Picking the best player available at the draft is the choice of many that say, at worst, it is to trade for what you are missing.

Slafkovsky might well still titivate some GM somewhere and help us acquire a true top-6 C that fits with the age group of our young core.

THAT would be a real hockey trade and I wonder if it wouldn't better help the team.

We'd have Caufield, Suzuki, Demidov, young and talented 2nd line C as surer things up front, but we'd still be missing two 2nd line wingers if you don't believe laine can amount to anything constant and serious in Montreal.

Maybe Dach as 2nd line RW?

This upcoming draft would be crucial and Hage, most likely on the wing, panning out into some kind of wonderful would become paramount. Hage would need to become some sort of Pacioretty, maybe.

Or we would need to draft a winger like Bear and hope he can push the pace in our top-6, break down opposing Ds and exploit the talent we do have up front on the top-2 lines.

Is a young, quality C more important to the Habs' rebuild than a winger like Slafkovsky?

I can see a John Leclair error happening all over again.

Slafkovsky + Engstrom

FOR

Center like Recchi at the time.

Center, in Montreal, sees his offensive production drop a little, Slafkovsky becomes a 35-goal power forward and Engstrom a reliable top-4 D...

Before trading Slaf for a C, I would like to see him tried as a 2C and oddly enough this 4 nations pause may be a good time to set this up. There will be almost a week of training before NHL activity resume. I would pull Slaf aside and do intensive sessions so he can absorbed the concept. He's LH, been practicing faceoff with Bureau and his propantion for being a pass first kinda guy may help him here.

I dont usually advocate for those type of experiment, but I think that this is one worth trying given his struggle. Put Dach or Laine on the 1st.
