Id guess Dobson having arbitration rights probably means they don't want to wait until after he becomes an RFA to trade him?

...is Dobson really a fit here??...is his ONE big season who he is or an outlier??...and if Mailloux progresses like we hope, doesn't Dobson become rather redundant??... :dunno:
The scouting reports I read on him when he was younger was he was a good two-way and good defending player. Apparently he's not so good defending now. Is that because he's being told to play hyper aggressively offensively because no other defense on the NYI can generate offense (think they just acquired 2 offensive ish defensement in TDA and Perunovich). Maybe he has the ability to play a more defensive game in him?

...more that he was a BIG kid being able to out muscle smaller kids, imo...he no longer has a significant size/strength advantage against other men his size and it shows...

Dobson was one of my favourite defensemen in the league. His play this year has been so horrible that you can't help but feel skeptical, especially when he will cost a fortune and a minimum of 10 million a year. He's soft, poor defensively, lazy, and inconsistent offensively. Not to mention that it's either him or Hutson on PP1 which is a huge difference. Dobson's severe flaws have been way too exposed for my liking.

Elias Pettersson is still the best target if the Canucks still want to trade him.

It makes sense to go for the “proven” NHL talent over magic beans but when they cost first round picks in the first place, are older, are busted or castoffs, and unproven as reliable players… what’s the point?

Would anyone do the Newhook trade knowing he produces as another Drouin at best? No. Would anyone trade the 13OA for Dach knowing he can’t really play C and has dubious upside given his injury troubles? I hope not.
Drouin is 1ppg right now. Don't insult him with your Newhook ! :dunce:

Pretty dumb comment by D'Amico. If the pick is like 5 spots better than expected which makes it "disastrous", then the player wasn't worth trading for anyways. Not like we're risking giving up a top 5 pick here.
It's not D'Amico that said that, it's a person that he calls a source.
I'm not sure why he calls that person a source when said person is just giving his opinion.
Usually a source implies information... but that's another matter.

About the disastrous part, i guess it all depends on the value they put on the pick.
If they only get late first value for it, it could become disastrous, but i don't see that happening.

I hope they keep Brodie the future and don’t make the mistake of trying to speed up the process by being buyers at the deadline and trying to make a big splash.

I think they should look to trade guys like Armia and Savard to contenders. Both are UFAs and don’t really fit with the long term of being a contender in 3 or 4 years. Retain salary on both and Montreal should get high draft picks in return.

We can only retain on one player. We only have one slot left.

Dobson was a real force on the ice in the Q. Good at both ends for sure at that level. But that level doesn’t have NHL forwards.

Dobson has to figure it out. Bouchard as well but he’s on a better team so the flaws don’t stand out as much. I’d say Bouchard has shown more improvement in that area but difficult to know how much because he is paired up with a steady rock in Ekhlom! He can make you look good for sure

Remember when some fans said they should have paid the price for Chychrun instead of Ekhlom? There is a lesson learned from that move the Oilers made. There is also some lessons learned about the top 4D we had in our run with Price! Even Price will say it wasn’t all him.. That big mobile physical D and Danault was a huge factor!

We got a job to do. Find the steady rock for Hutson! That is not a Dobson type. We already have our Dobson.. he is Reinbacher

We are not going anywhere until we fix our team D structure

Hutson / ????
Guhle / Reinbacher
Xhekaj / Mailloux
Engstrom / BK

yeah I dont think Dobson is exactly what is needed here, and the huge cost to acquire will make it difficult to swallow the not so perfect fit. I think Nemec would be the best bet...and after that, there is like 0 youngish steady RD that could be available, those are very very rare!

So I looked up around the league which team has a surplus of center, and one of them that would be a great fit is Anaheim. They have Carlsson-Strome-Gauthier-Zegras-Mctavish-Lunderstrom that could all play center. the Zegras topic has been beaten to death but what about Mctavish? Id be ok paying more for Mctavish!

Problem is, they kinda need RDs as well.. and I dont think Dach + Mailloux would do it, id throw one of our 1st as well but I still dont think they would bite

...I'd say Mailloux is more of our (hopeful) Dobson-type...Reinbacher, if he's as good as he was made out to be, will probably be our defensive guy paired with Hutson...unfortunately, that may be years away...

The issue becomes; is Dach prepared to become the ultimate 3rd line Winger? I dont think he is..
Why would we do that?
First I would try Dach on the top line again.
We tried him there earlier when he had no game at all.
If Dach is not a top 6 player I think it's a swing and a miss.
