I'm not against it if we are talking about HOF quality guys. But come on Bo Horvat give me a break. The guy is not that good in his prime ... if he's cheap sure but i would not pay for this kind of 30+ guys.
Horvat is a much better player than you suggest he is.

Premiere F/O and shutdown C.

Regular 60-70 point producer on the offensive side.

30+ goal-scorer in a good year (3 times, so far in his career).

At 6'1", 215 lbs, Horvat is not some physical weakling either.

Horvat's 6 remaining years on his contract - that take him through his 35th birthday -- are ideal when you consider the Habs' timeline to compete. Suzuki is signed t five more years after this one and Caufied is signed to six more years, while Slafkovsky is signed to 8 more years.

Hutson will likely sign for no less than 6 more years after next year (so 7 more years after this one), leaving contracts to the Habs' star players staggered five years after this one, six years after this one, seven years after this one and beyond that when Demidov signs his second NHL contract in three years after this one for likely no less than 5 or 6 years, even if he were to play hardball with the Habs' GM at that point.

With Suzuki - Horvat as top-6 Cs, Montreal could produce offensively, given the quality of our wingers and Hutson + Matheson as offensive Ds on the back end and an overall D-Corps that is good in transition, all while keeping in check the opponents' best players. Add to that another top-4 RHD and it all gets even better for the Habs.

In fact, I feel like a deal with the Isles for Horvat would more likely also include Beck, rather than Roy:

Horvat to Montreal.

Dach + Beck + Calgary 1st round pick + Montreal 2nd round pick

However, at that point, Montreal should re-sign Evans and hope to select Desnoyers at the 29025 draft. If not, they can only hope to get their hands on Carter Bear at that player auction.

Suzuki
Horvat
Kapanen
Evans

In the pipeline down the middle: Hage, Desnoyers?

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky/Demidov
Slafkovsky/Demidov - Horvat - Laine
Heineman - Newhook - Roy
Anderson - Evans - Olivier?/Gallagher
F. Xhekaj, Gallagher

Hutson - Matheson
Guhle - Carrier
A. Xhekaj - Reinbacher
Struble

Interesting target. Horvat is a solid player

A player that I think could be an amazing bottom 6 guy is Eeli Tolvanen who plays with Seattle.

He is currently on the first year of a 2 year contract making 3.475M cap hit. 25 years old, going to 26 in April.

He is in the same mold has Emil Heineman. Hits a bunch, good shot, and can skate. If the way we want to play is to role 4 lines, I think this player fits perfectly.

Wecould have claimed him from waivers and we skipped.

Tolvanen definitely hits a lot for his size. Gets a lot of offensive zone starts (60/40 split)

Matheson for Hronek with Raty as throw in I was thinking other day. Hronek 27 is veteran right shot plays 25 minutes. Raty will make good bottom 6 center. He'd good on faceoffs, size, defensively, point a game in AHL. On ELC, He should be ready to step in. Allows trade of Evans. We get a first for Evans, saved 3m in caproom
After acquiring Peterson, I don’t think they would be looking at trading Hronek for a LD, let alone adding Raty on top.

I also think that if Evans is gone, they will go for another vet to replace him while Beck/Kapanen fight for the Dvorak spot.

Horvat would be a great fit, the only problem is I don't see Lou starting a rebuild that he won't live long enough to see the end of lol.

What we need is Lou to retire. He has to be close.

Horvat is a reach considering the Lou factor, but you never know who becomes available. I'm sure there will be new names that come up over the next year.

If we trade Evans (even for a late 1st and B prospect), that means he is asking for too much on his contract. Think about it.. a late 1st (magic bean) and a prospect that probably does not become as good as Evans. I get that Evans is not a top 6 talent but man, he leaves a big hole if he is gone and trying to replace that when so many other teams are trying the same is just not that easy.

I'm personally 50/50 if we trade him or not. I just feel like Gorton/Hughes are delaying any extension because they want to explore their TDL options first.

I want to keep Evans unless he prices himself out.

What is a price himself out with you? 5x $5M? What do we say if it's 5x $4.5M?

Personally, I think Evans has more value to this team than both Dach and Newhook. Let those boys finish their bridge and see where they are at but they are on a trade them out track. I hate saying that for Dach and Newhook but come on boys... MSL is giving you loads of opportunity. Do something with it FFS

If we are not extending both Dach and Newhook, there is Evan's cap structure hit.

Dach and Newhook's hit would go to their replacement not to Evans.

With the rising cap, I'd be ok with 4.5M for Evans. After that... Ask me later.

Nah... those are Demidov, Hage, Beck, Kapanen, Roy replacements. Demidov takes Price's cap hit and the others are probably bridged like Dach and Newhook were.

Lots of expiring contracts as well to come. Dvorak, Armia, Savard, Gallagher, Anderson. Retention spots to Allen and Petry are free after this season as well.

I don't see Evans breaking our cap structure. We are just not that tight... even after Hutson and Demidov extensions. The tricky part is when Guhle, Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf need new contracts IMO.

I'm not talking about cap management in 2030.

Well you got to look at it today and the future right? Evans is not going to break our cap structure. Maybe Hutson or Demidov will

He could make it harder to contend in 1-4 years if he's on a big deal, that's what I'm getting at.

Our window could already be closing around 2030-2031 unless moves are made by then to make it longer so it is not my main focus.

...they might not have much of a choice...that room needs a severe shakeup...we have vets with "Karacter" as well...maybe a mix of both??... :dunno:
not sure they see it like that, Adams said something like he would go to war with this players
not saying he is right or a good GM, but all those Cozens talk comes from rumours that teams are calling and asking for him, nothing that he wants out or they want to move him out

...I get that...the problem is that room needs a severe shakeup and the "I Believe in these guys" song only plays for soo long before it gets stale...and I'd say that's where the Sabres are now; the "We need to do SOMETHING" state...
