2016 Draft. Rumor was that Bergevin was angling for Dubois at 4th. Dubois was drafted by CBJ at 3rd.
Wasn't it PK for Draisatl and the 4th OA if PLD was still there ? Not sure if the Oil said no or Columbus killed it by taking PLD.

Nemec I would definitely not call a failed high pick. Until this season, he was developing in a great way. D+2 he played 60 games in NHL playing in top4 role almost 20 minutes of ice-time, PP2, PK2 including. People complain about his defensive play, but he had 105 blocked shots which would be 4th in Habs behind Matheson, Guhle, Savard. If you put it into context of Habs, none of our young D played such important and complex role. We would be extremely happy, if Reinbacher was performing like that this season. Obviously, he is injured, but nobody labels him as failed high pick for that. And that exactly happened to Nemec, he got injured and did not play well at the start of this season. Sending to Utica definitely did not help his morale. Trust me, if he joined Habs today, he would be at least 3RD over Savard this year and 2RD next year.
He is racking up points now.

What do you gather is the real upside for Nemec? Better pairing partner for Guhle than Hutson?

I'd like to see a long term top-4 of:

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Nemec

Would you be willing to include Heineman in a trade for Nemec?

Evans + Heineman + Mailloux + PIT 2nd rounder

...if the Habs aren't offering at least one of our 1sts this year, Jersey won't even pick up the phone, imo...

That's alot of assets for a guy unhappy in NJ
Heineman should be a no.

If the pens are cutting ties, Letang ?

Anyone watch the pens this year ? If there's some retention is it worth it ?

Especially if Savard is traded/not re-signed

3 years is a little much, would prefer 2, but hes a winner, tough in his own right, leader, local guy and can pot some points

Evans + worst of our 2025 1st + Roy
For Nemec

Trade up from our best 1st using both 2nds to get one of Desnoyers/Frondell.

Big no from me.

Looking at the weakly Sens, I wonder what it would take for the Sens to trade us Tkachuk. I mean he's more peripheral than a top player and that is why the Sens are going nowhere. But he would shine on a team with more scoring depth. I wonder if Slaf + could make it happen for Tkachuk.

He's the kind of player that gets distracted from the ultimate goal and gets fixated on his internal battles. He probably means well but he has a few too many marbles loose for my liking.

The trades ended up like this:

With the Montreal Canadiens:

Patrik Laine , Alexandre Carrier , Michael Hage , a 2025 Flames 1st round pick, a 2026 Blue Jackets 2nd round pick

With the Winnipeg Jets, Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche:

Artturi Lehkonen , Jordan Harris , a 2024 7th round pick ( James Reeder )

Alex Tuch is another guy who could help us with another year left on his contract.

Ideally moving Christian Dvorak, David Savard and Alex Newhook out.
Bring in Ryan O’Reilly, Alex Tuch Rasmus Ristolainen in.

Ryan O’Reillywould help this team learn how to win.
2 more years after this one would be perfect. Also he wins faceoffs too and kills penalties.

Filip Mesar and a draft pick?
Ryan O'Reilly is a perfect acquisition to help support Dach's development. The term is perfect and the amount is irrelevant because of it, even if a 4.5M Cap hit is more than reasonable.

Adding O'Reilly, provided it isn't for a 1st round pick as part of a package, would enable Hughes to move Evans for a 1st round pick without the troops feeling like their GM has let them down in their pursuit of a playoff spot.

It would also provide the following C-Line for next season and the one after that...

Suzuki
Dach
O'Reilly
Beck

...long enough to see if Dach can solidify his hold on a top-C Center role and long enough for Hage to mature into an NHL role, whether as a top-6 C, a 3rd line C, or as a winger, either in a 2nd line or a 3rd line role...

Demidov - Suzuki - Laine
Caufield - Dach - Slafkovsky
Heineman - Hage - Bear?
Davidson - Beck - Newhook

Slafkovsky Suzuki Caufield
Laine O’Reilly Tuch
Anderson Dach Gallagher
Armia Evans Heineman

Hutson Matheson
Guhle Carrier
Xhekaj Ristolainen

RR shots left wins faceoffs kills penalties provide secondary offensive and under $5 Mil for 2 more years after this. Basically he’s Monahan

I'd go as far as offering Evans, Mailloux and replacing Heineman and the PIT 2nd rounder by the worst of Montreal's or CAL's 1st rounder in 2025. Add one of our multiple 3rd rounders as well.

Also the fact that we’ve identified our core players.

Slafkovsky Suzuki Caufield Demidov Hutson Guhle Reinbacher Fowler and to a lesser extent Laine Dach Dobes. I mean we can’t rebuild forever so we need to surround them with veterans who won before.

Rasmus Ristolainen can f*** off.

Tuch is from Buffalo. If there's a deal between Buffalo and Montreal and there's a Tuch involved it's almost certainly Luke

RoR is being treated as if he has a NTC AND the Preds don't really want trade him.

So, high price and low probability he comes here
