did you think we would get to underpay for Crosby?

and those three years, he will not only be a PPG player but a mentor (real mentor) to our young group.. I could see us winning a SC with Crosby, then he retires and we have another a another run with the crew who are now battle tested. bare in mind, we need to have some high ticket vets (WHILE) our youth are on cheap contracts, like Demidov and Hutson.
at his age and at our position yes this is

And is Slaf even outplaying Joel Armia right now? Doesn't mean you wouldn't regret trading him in 2 years.
Yes he is, but in any case if Slaf was in the AHL because he couldn't make the team then there would be some pretty legitimate concerns that we drafted a bust. And this place would be toxic with all the bust talk.

No he isn't. And last year he was generating nothing before he got put on the Suzuki line. The only difference is the Devils have a much deeper team than we do.

Nemec had an injury just before training camp (Shoulder) which might explain why he didn't perform and keep a spot. Kovacevic got his chance and has been playing at an absurd level. I mean them the breaks, what else was Nemec supposed to do? Simply not get injured? Hire a hitman to get rid of a red-hot Kovacevic having a career year?

People saying Nemec couldn't outplay Kovacevic are kinda simplying the situation. Devils fan are saying than Nemec seems to be back to 100% and has been killing it in the AHL. Under normal circumstances he'd earn himself a call-up but there's simply no way you take off Kovacevic out the lineup the way he's playing right now. The Devils are 4th in the league for GA, they have one of the best Dcore in the league this year, why change a winning recipe?

At the end of the day, I think the Devils just package Nemec, Mercer, maybe one of Casey/Gritsyuk/Silayev and a 1st for a big fish either this deadline or this off-season. Doubt they're looking for futures, unless it's a heavy overpay.

Or, they'll be looking at swapping Nemec for a comparable F prospect that can join their top 6 starting next year. Doubt there's too many of those available tho...

Look if Nemec is actually available then I'd put in an offer, but let's not pretend like he doesn't bear some responsibility in not being able to make the Devils D. You can say it's so much deeper then us, yet Kovacevic went in and made that deep time, Nemec not being able to do the same is on Nemec and it is a cause for concern.

If we had drafted Nemec instead of Slaf and he was in the AHL this year unable to make the team this place would be in full melt down.

Yeah and there's a very real world judging by his play if Slaf was on a deeper team he'd have trouble making the team too lol. Especially on a top team that doesn't have a top 6 spot or PP time for him.

Of the fwds drafted in 2020, Only Cooley is playing more ES minutes than Slaf, by 19s/game.

Top 6 fwds (in ES ice time) on some contenders Slaf easily gets more ice time than:
Oilers - podkolzin, Arvidsson
Avs - Drouin
Stars - Stankoven, Marchment
Toronto - Domi

His role on any given roster would of course vary, but he's an NHL right now in any organization.

...why bring Johnny Floaty up??...let's just forget he ever existed, it's far better for everyone involved... :thumbu:

But it's not me just "hoping" for a superstar like Crosby. There is a history for him (incredibly rare) of his childhood dream.
He would not hurt the balance in the room. He has no attitude, just win.. and his contract is relatively cheap for who he is. And (if) he still has fuel in the tank after next year, then he'll sign the team friendly one year deals thereafter.
It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, and while i agree it's an overpayment, non of what we would give would really hurt us.. only Beck would be the sting.

If it's prospect for prospect, then the only for offer could be Hage/Beck. For Nemec id be willing to part with one of these guys. Granted i haven't watched him in the AHL this year, unless Nimitz says otherwise, the opportunity to grab a young RHD is invaluable.

Hage would be untouchable. Don't know why they would want Beck.

If it's prospect for prospect
It's not going to be prospect for prospect. If they are seriously considering trading Nemec then they will want to use him for a cup push. It's why the first rumors were things like Evans+ or Anderson+, because they are things that can actually help NJ win now. The + part of those packages might include prospects/picks because of salary/value concerns but there will always have to be something that helps them in the present.
