Mittlestadt kinda stinks and Hughes shouldn't be allowed to trade with Colorado. Even though the team is buzzing, we should still look at upgrading Dvorak with a LHC that has some term. Newhook doesn't strike me as a 3rd line center as he doesn't really provide much, and Beck/Kapanen aren't guarantees for next year.

I know Hughes said no rentals, but one player I really want is Brock Nelson.
Yeah he would obviously be a fit at 2C but is a pure rental. I’m not completely against a rental but I wouldn’t give a 1st for one this season.

For me, the max I would think would make sense for us to pay in the actual situation is Habs 2nd. I want to keep both our 1sts and Pittsburgh 2nd which I think will be in the 30’s.

The question is : can we get a guy like Nelson with a mid 2nd and maybe add a 4th or a prospect we don’t have plans for?

At this point the best proposal would be no proposal. We are the hottest team in the NHL and making a trade right now could probably disrupt the momentum we have going.Unless it's a steal of a deal or a waiver pickup or a bad contract for draft capital i say no at this time.Looks like we have turned the corner and wouldn't want to mess with that.

Good thing is we still almost 8 weeks from the deadline. No need to do it right now. But make no mistake, we will have a tougher period at one point and maybe an injury or two. At that point, an add would be good to keep the energy going.

After 3 seasons of him being mostly in the AHL, the Devils might legit consider it. I'd actually start with a one for one offer for Mailloux, that could work out well for both players and teams IMO. Having the three best friends together has an added value for us development wise.

I don’t think Habs care about that right now. I would even say it’s the opposite, locker room is vibing, you don’t want to bring in Slaf’s old buddy then Suzuki’s brother, etc.

Having friends or family on the team can be a mixed blessing. If things don't go well for one of them it can derail things for the others. There is also a tendency to form cliques which can cause issues.

That said Nemec's potential is high enough that if there is seriously an Anderson or Mailloux package it's probably too good to pass up on.

what an overpayment for a guy turning 38 this summer...
did you think we would get to underpay for Crosby?

That's what i mean by F%$/ up our rebuild, no way i am giving up these 4 assets for Crosby.
Crosby as 2 maybe 3 good years left in him.
and those three years, he will not only be a PPG player but a mentor (real mentor) to our young group.. I could see us winning a SC with Crosby, then he retires and we have another a another run with the crew who are now battle tested. bare in mind, we need to have some high ticket vets (WHILE) our youth are on cheap contracts, like Demidov and Hutson.

Imagine having a 2nd OA pick who can't even outplay Kovacevic. Might lead you to try and trade him quickly before the rest of the league realizes he's been failing to live up to his draft hype.
And is Slaf even outplaying Joel Armia right now? Doesn't mean you wouldn't regret trading him in 2 years.
