I wouldn't say its an easy pass. A good defensive RD who is mobile is something every team wants (depending on cost).

IMO his value to the Islanders is more than he's worth in a trade, so I don't see the fit.And has there been any serious rumour of him wanting out or being available (he's got full trade protection)?
Mobile as Matheson, but rightie and defensive minded.

By golly! I think they are liking it!
Yes, I would do it.

Nemec Hockey IQ is off the chart. His defensive play was the main problem in his draft year. He was doing stupid plays and had quite a lot of brain freeze.

From what I saw from his play in the AHL, he has improve quite a bit in his own zone.

He could become a solid 2D for US.

+ he's one of Slaf's best friends
Guess we would have to keep Mesar around as well then! LOL!

Yeah....I think I'd do it. Particularly if we feel Evans won't sign for something we like price wise.

We could then promote Beck to 3rd line centre.

Damn.....we would have all the talent from '22

I'm not even sure Pittsburgh should go full seller. They have a number of contracts that are basically unmoveable on top of having almost the whole team on some sort of NTC. And you have to think they are looking at Washington and how they were in same position but managed to get back to contender status without any sort of of rebuild.

I wouldn't be too opposed to adding a cheap vet well before the deadline if Heineman's injuries takes longer to heal or if his absence becomes sorely missed on the Habs. Taylor Hall for NJ's 3rd round pick + a C prospect would do it I think

Concerning the need of a left-handed 2C, I'd just try Demidov at C to be honest. It would be so much better on a roster building standpoint

Caps drafted very well though. They also traded well. They gave a end of 1st round pick for Sandin which looks like a homerun right now. Caps did not rebuild but they went for youth to replace the old players. They have 7 players aged 24 or less who played at least 10 games. Pens have only two players aged 24 or less who played at least 10 games. Owen Pickering is struggling out there even in the AHL. Same for McL'Gros. Pens should be the prime example of drafting late should not be an excuse for drafting nothing ever. They should have fired their drafting team a while ago. Since they drafted Guentzel in 2013 they have not hit a single good NHL player.

Caps have certainly gotten a few good players from recent drafts that have helped them but I don't think that's really the source of their success. The strategy of going for young NHLers who need a change of scenery is probably what Pittsburgh would wan/try to emulate if they try to copy the Caps. But it's important to note that the Caps got Strome as a FA, Chychrun for basically nothing, Sandin for a late 1st, PLD was pretty cheap too.

The reason that matters to us though is that if they do try to copy Washington's get younger strategy then they aren't going to be trading the guys we would be interested in, and they also wouldn't be interested in the packages we would offer which would be picks/prospects heavy.

Bergevin is actually the clown would give 3 first pick for an upcoming 38 year olds for a team that is one streak of lost to finish bottom 10.

We talk building for the future and this fanbase wants to trade for a guy about to retire by giving a potential nhl center ready and 3 first picks. Just shows that people just look at names when they trade for a player
I don't think it's appropriate to describe Sidney Crosby as "a guy about to retire" and think that Owen fkn Beck and Logan fkn Mailloux is too much to give up to get his services. But that's just me.

Is it really too rich though? I agree if it is for only 2 years then that is too much, but if Sid is willing to sign and bring our youth to SC contenders the value is irreplaceable
Syd the kid will be 38 in August. Year in and year out he has given his all. He has a lot of mileage on that body. Do you really think he'll be able to go at a Crosby level for more than two years? I have my doubts.

Unless Newhook starts to produce more, they gonna have to look for another winger for tis 2nd line. Let’s hit a home run and get Lafrenière to play on that LW.

...we still need to be sellers...nothing huge, but if anyone wants Dvorak we should listen...
We aren't getting more than a 3rd round pick IMO for him, that's my opinion anyway.

With that said, I think we can afford keeping and crossing our fingers to help the team remain competitive for the rest of the season and hope for a WC spot and make him leave in the off season!

Dach and one of the 1st and maybe a 2nd. Pens will want a NHL player coming back. This is not some situation where 10 teams bid on him. It's very likely Crosby will have 3 teams max. That limits the return vs the 10+ team bidding war.

We are talking about a 37 year old star with a NMC. This is not even close to a EP40 bidding war

Circumstance is important in trade value. Just like the Laine trade. Different circumstances yes but we should get the point. If the costs is crazy high, we say no.

The trade was both our 1st this year, Mailloux and Beck.

Of course if the trade is different, my answer could change.

It's all moot anyway because if have a better chance at dating Jessica Alba than Crosby leaving Pittsburgh. It would be extremely out of character for him.

Next year the 1st line is CC, Slick Nikk, & Slaf.

The 2nd line will most likely be Demigod, Dach and Laine.

Where do we play Laf?

Did you forget about that Demidov kid? That's where he will be playing next season. Making a move for another top 6 player doesn't make any sense now.

Newhook is a perfect 3rd line player, he had his chances at the top 6 but didn't take advantage of the situation, same as Anderson. That's what they are, and every successful team has solid 3rd lines, so I'm not really worried about that! They're good where they are and are effective! :)

I’m a fan of Lafrenière. But I feel like this team has traded for enough young players who haven’t succeeded with their first club.

Crosby like Malkin and Letang will finish their career in Pittsburg. Their biggest boo-boo was letting Fleury to be picked by LV.
