HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

I also think Evans will stay in the end unless his demands are not realistic.

But if it's the case.....get creative, let's add and try to get Nemec.
With Hamilton, Pesce, Kovacevic and even Casey in front of him, pretty sure he'll be move at some point
Yup, if Montreal wants to speed things up, Andersson would be the target but otherwise a younger RHD like Nemec should be the target.

Their 1st has top 10 protection for this draft while ours wouldn't. I think that's a big factor to consider.
If we trade for Andersson, we likely make the playoffs. Our pick has a big chance to be better than theirs. They have a better record, but we have a better chance to make the dance. Based on how things are looking record-wise, if Calgary misses, they are going to have a better record than the majority of non-playoff teams. I don't see them falling into the top 10 unless they win the lottery.

I like Nemec as much as the next guy. He was my pick for that draft, but I think we have a lot of youth. I also don't think Nemec is available. Right now, we have Xhekaj (23), Struble (23), Guhle (22) and Hutson (20) already playing at the NHL level. We need vets in their prime like Carrier.

How quiet are we talking here? Tibetan Monks in a library quiet?

Dvo, IMO, is a waste of a roster spot and I can't wait to get him off the team. Guy does nothing and shows nothing.

He is the unsalted cracker washed down with room temperature water of the NHL.

Based on the way they are playing 5v5 they should have the same number of points. From here until the end of the season they’ll get around the same results +- 3-4 points. Y’all get blinded by finishing which is, for most players, highly volatile and mean reverting.

I also prefer Evans but not at twice the salary. Buy low sell high.

Rasmus Andersson would be a summer trade if they were interested. He only has 1 year left on his contract after this one. They'd be crazy to give up big assets without the ability to immediately lock him up.

My only concern about Nemec, and it's a dumb argument, is just the odds of having so many successful picks in both a single and consecutive drafts are not very high.

I look at the history of drafts, and its not the case that all top 5 picks make an impact. I am just skeptical of the odds of having Slaf (1OA), Nemec (2OA), Reinbacher (5OA), and Demidov (5OA) all hit, especially when they are all drafted in a 3 year span.

I know it's not about odds, but what the player actually looks like, but man, that would be crazy luck. And this is not counting the fact that Hutson might also be a star, and then folks expecting or have expectation that Hage, Mesar, Beck, Fowler, Engstrom will hit as well.

It's possible because once selected, they aren't odds anymore, but actually players developing.

But the odds on paper of all these players hitting in a 3 year window is small man.

I agree with the point I bolded and I agree that we do get blinded by finishing in a lot of cases.

In Dvo's case, however, I don't value what he brings at all, which IMO is not a whole lot. He wins the occasional faceoff (but not always) and that's about it. He doesn't play physical, doesn't drive play, doesn't drag his team into the fight. There are no intangibles I can lean on with him and say "you know what, yeah. He's not producing well but at least ______". He's one of the more forgettable Habs in recent memory.

But I can't pretend to know all of the answers because, as you (and I earlier in this thread) mentioned, I don't want to pay Evans what he's probably going to want either and we can't go into next year with two rookie bottom-line centers. We either have to trade/sign for one if they both walk.

But I'd rather attempt to figure that out rather than re-sign Dvo.

For those who might be interested...

Andersson be ideal first pairing right D for us. Especially with Matheson playing well on right side. Carrier ideal 3rd pairing in right side.

Also allows us to trade Savard.

I would give Flames their first back and Kapanen, maybe Savard who they can flip for a pick.

A target like Nemec is nice but he needs to be available. We are talking about the #2 OA pick that the Devils likely still value very high. That likely requires us to trade Slaf or Hage or Reinbacher pieces and we prefer not too.

Remember, the point of trading for Andersson is to have impact now and future. Guys like Nemec and Reinbacher and Hage are 3+ year solutions until they are ready for prime time. By then, Suzuki is 2 years away from UFA and needs a massive raise.

What reason does Washington have to trade him? They have the other Protas who plays for the Spitfires and will probably make the team next year as well
Yeah he is not going anywhere .. it's just a pipe dream.

Maybe you’re right. I’m not a big fan of Dvo, I like his play this year but the sample size is too small. But the quality of our bottom 6 have driven our recent success. In share of expected goal Anderson-Dvorak-Gallagher (63%) and Armia-Evans-Heineman (55%) are our best line combo >50 minutes played this year (in the last 4 years really).

Can Gally/Anderson, Heineman/Armia reproduce those results with Newhook and Beck as center? Maybe but it’s quite the gamble considering how difficult it was to get them going (Heineman aside).

if we can get a 1st for Evans take it and run with 3 1st round picks this summer will have alot of options to target the players we want

Sign UFA Mathieu Olivier

Would also like to trade for Rasmus Andersson this summer if the ask isnt too crazy

Slafkovsly - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Dach -
Demidov
Newhook - Beck - Olivier
Anderson -
Kapanen - Gallagher

Hutson -
Andersson
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj -
Reinbacher/Struble
Mailloux

Monty
Dobes
What happened to Heineman?

If Dobson is available we have to go for him. He would instantly improve our defence by a significant margin.
