Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

Wouldn't blame Bedard one bit if he asks for a way out of Chicago. I was thinking a team might offer sheet the kid after next year but with all the cap space in the world, Chicago will match anything and then he's stuck there for another 8.

Demidov - Bedard - Slafkovsky
Laine - Suzuki - Caufield
Heine - Hage - Dach

Hutson - Reinbacher
Ghule - Carrier

Fowler
Dobes

🤤

Why would he ask for way out? Taylor Hall is at the end of his career.
Nothing to do with Hall, he's been cooked for years.

The Hawks are a dog and pony show organization. They've been doing nothing to make their team better and/or surround the kid. There's nothing coming up that's overly exciting besides Levu. Moore and Nazar are not going to move the needle. They are so far back in their rebuild it's gotta seem like a drastically long road ahead and I'm not sure he'll want to stay put. Just my opinion on it.

No lie, I was thinking how we could pull that off but Chicago has all the cap space to match anything that comes their way.

Wonder what the Canucks are asking for Pettersson ?I think he would be the icing on the cake here.Looking ahead it's about all we need.He is the right age ,superstar potential as he has shown .We do have 2 1st round picks to dangle .Maybe a future one also?Thrown in Dvorak if they need a centre

Why? Just the 2nd year of the rebuild. He has a few years to go and he knew that from the start. Chicago as a good group of kids coming. It will become interesting for Bedard soon.

We
I think this trade suggests that we have a chance at signing him
Can do it too.

Demidov and reinbacher on entry level for 3 years, Dvorak coming off the books. We're pretty much going to have to either buy out Gally or send a pick with him though. But we can do this

Cap is allowed to go up 5% per year's. In 3 years we could be looking at a cap over 100 million

That would be nice lol. But realistically the only thing I can think of is Peterson but is Peterson bigger than rantanen?

Avs are trading future HOF'ers and Montreal can't figure out what to do with Savard and held onto Barron like he was the second coming of Bobby Orr. Imagine the load they could have got for Price if they let him goto a contender instead of sucking the life out of him the last 8 years.

Anyhoo.. c'mon Kent, you crushed it with the Laine deal and Carrier has been great. Don't let this hot streak get in the way, move Savard while he has some value.

I had to go to the Chicago board to understand why they did the trade.

I think it's that ... Taylor Hall is so bad now, and so expensive, that they need to pay to get rid of him.
In a vacuum, they created 1.5m cap space getting a 3rd rounder. They also only have one retention spot left, maybe they did not want to use for Hall. Pretty sure they would have gotten more for Hall at 50% but who knows maybe other GMs were not interested…

Am I the only one finding it funny to criticizes Hughes for holding on Barron and then praising him for the Carrier trade?

lol. But if the rumours of true of getting a better return in the summer, he should have seen Barron was as dead end like most of us saw and unloaded the dolt then

Which rumors are you speaking about? I don't recall hearing anything about a big return for Barron being turned down.

The jets wanted Barron for McCroarty for example , Kent said that was a deal breaker. Or did I hear that wrong? I've been wrong 2x before at last count

Carolina traded for Rantanen because he’s a top 10 forward in the league. This is a team that keeps losing in the playoffs because they can’t score and they added a premier player for a guy that’s always disappointed at even strength.
The Avs struck gold again. They fleeced the Canes solid. Mikko/Hall are impending UFAs, with no guarantees of them signing long term. They basically sold their best player, who has blossomed, for an impending top tier UFA. Way to go.

Necas' production is a mirage. He's not even that much younger than Rantanen. They didn't get that good of a return

Rantanen is a lot better than Necas though. They downgraded for 1 year of security.

Necas is UFA in 2026.

lol they didn’t fleece the Canes. They traded one of the best wingers in the league for a guy that has cooled off considerably and is a UFA himself after next season.

Simple rules of trades - the team that gets the best player is more often than not the winner.

They didn't have much of a choice. The alternative to what they did is to keep Rantanen , add some other depth guys and try to challenge for the cup one last time with the MacKinnon - Rantanen - Makar core and then hope that Rantanen become more flexible on his demands before July 1st. This is a big gamble. If you fail you lose a superstar for nothing.

They took the safer route which i think made sense. Necas is not in the same tier of player as Rantanen but with Mac as his center who knows what he could become. Aho is no slouch but Mac is just better. They also saved money and have Necas for an additional year with that.

Not sure i would use the term fleeced but they did good considering the context and situation they were in.
