They could! This sounds as the Rangers and the team of m Gainey in the time without cap space. They were the richest teams of the NHL and every summer they were getting the best free agents. Gainey won only one Cup, Rangers were struggling most of the time

The Avs went from being on the precipice of a dynasty to this in just a few short years.

Yeah the Landeskog and Nichuskin situations have sucked, but downgrading from an excellent two-way C in Kadri to a turnstile in Mittelstadt while giving up Byram over Girard (who they won without) and now trading one of the best playoff performers of our generation for the charmin soft Necas is some of the worst management I've seen.

I honestly would have bet 100$ they wouldn't trade him. I don't recall the last time a cup contender trades a core member of their team even if he was a UFA. Seems like a big downgrade from Colorado.
