For Elias Petersson offer a 2025 1st, Dach, Mailloux, and Gallagher.
At 11.6M, you need a sure thing, EP showing again this year that he's not quite there.

Love the talent, but not sure a mercurial personality like his would do well as the highest paid player long term in the Montreal spotlight.

Value-wise... Sure. But hard pass for me at that price or more.

Agreed, but that price tag, aside from the Habs 1st which is in a draft that has a player like McKenna you don't want to lose that potential lottery ticket, but if it's like 10th, that's a lot of deadweight the Habs are trading.

But you're correct in the Habs might add expensive dead weight

Yeah, that first probably shouldn't be moved until post lottery almost regardless of incoming player, at least ones that are rumored to be available...

what? If anything, the track record of this management group qhen it comes to acquiring veterans is a positive sign that we'll get net positive asset acquisition

Monahan, Matheson, Laine... we'll see how Carrier does but early signs are promising.

We're in good hands. I'm excited to see what they do this summer with the most cap flex they yet had to target vet additions.

Evans is becoming verrrrry valuable. Would like to see him play with Laine until the trade deadline.

Can’t wait for us to drop Matheson. With Carrier’s arrival, Xhekaj is loosing precious icetime on the pk for his developement. Xhekaj needs to ice time to continu to develop into a pk beast

Not sure EP is the ideal target for us but for the Futa’s package, I do it immediately. The thing is, I’m still not sure Laine is a long term solution for us.

Laine was always a temporary Radulov kind of acquisition. He isn't going to last here. Trading Caufield before fitting Demidov in the lineup would be foolish.

That’s what I’m afraid of. Trading Caufield and gambling on Laine and he shits the bed would be a disaster.

Yes, and we've already seen it against Columbus. As soon as you crank the heat on Laine, he risks breaking something. It's hard to imagine relying on him without Caufield. Actually this may screw up the plans, and we won't be able to get anything for him next TDL. He is entertaining to watch at least.

Bingo. People love to trade for big names and then complain about their anchor contracts later.

We are 20 years into the cap era but still don't fully grasp the cap implications of trades. You better be damn sure your 11.6 mil ticket is up to the task, and Pettersson's career to date should give everyone some doubts on that front.

That deal is far too risky for me and it doesn't even have anything to do with the other players involved.

The types of questions that surround Laine cannot be answered in 10 games..... not even close. I hope management isn't thinking they have a decision at this point.
