With Xhekaj seemingly turning his game around I think Struble will be moved. There just isn't room for him. Unless Matheson or Savard is moved
I think Savard is moved at the deadline. Struble basically just waiting for injuries right now. Which is why I didn't understand not sending him down and letting Lindstrom or someone rot as the 7/8D. But whatever I don't think it matters that much since Struble wasn't going to be top pairing regardless.

Matheson will be kept til he gets booed basically. I wouldn't even confidently say he won't be extended in the summer. He plays important minutes and only Hutson and Guhle have shown they can handle. It depends on how Reinbacher and Mailloux show throughout next season.

Evans is playing himself into a substantial raise. I'd rather spend the increase he will demand on a legit top 6 centre. My hope is he push Dach down to 3rd line and Beck jumps into 4th line role next year.

We have a great cap, but we need to be aware of what's to come with Laine, Lane and eventually Demi needing raises.

I really like Evans but I'd set a ceiling of like 3.5 x 4. He probably wants more.

Kind of ridiculous they didn't give him time to marinate knowing they were choosing between Xhekaj and Barron. But I'm sure he's glad to get an NHL paycheque.
Nope. You get more money by having a long career. It has better for him to play 20 mins+ in Laval and keep developing his game. Next year could be his last with us. With Reinbacher, Mailloux and Engstrom pushing.

Evans is playing himself out of the Habs. We won't be able to pay his new high contract. Pretty sure his agent will tell him to test the market. Do we want to sign him for 4m with Beck, Hage, Dach, Kapanen and maybe draft pick coming up with us soon?

I wouldnt go 4 m. My ceiling would be 3.5. He will want more in FA. Sucks because I really like him.

Wtf happenned?
That I don't know, I think it's been kept pretty much under wraps. I know Miller has an abrasive, in your face personality, he has rubbed people the wrong way in the past. They'll probably still try to make it work for a while, deny the rumors, etc. Both are under contract for a long while, so it's complicated .

And if you get injured developing in the AHL you get 70k career earnings instead of several million. He's already got a safety net after one and a half seasons. It's why so many middle six young guys sign team friendly bridge deals to secure a spot.

Good for Evans. He will get what he deserves and it might be his only biggish contract of his career. That being said, as far as the Habs are concerned, his salary would not be a problem if the term is max 4 years. Don’t know he would settle for that though.

I’d like to see MSL try him with Laine and Heineman as a 2nd line before we make any rash decisions.

He’s pacing for like 45 points playing with absolute plugs? He’s fast, defensively rock solid and he’s got a pretty good shot? Maybe he’s a late bloomer that can be that middle-6 guy while we wait for Hage?

If I were Montreal I’d try to keep Evans. I’d offer 4 years at $4 million (with the salary cap set to go to at least $92 million that is 1/23 the cap).

With Dvorak leaving after this season (or at the trade deadline) and Dach being a future question mark at centre, if Evans leaves only Suzuki remains as Montreal’s veteran centre, leaving 3 spots open. Who knows if Beck, Hage, Kapanen, or Dach can fill those 3 spots. Worst case is 3 of them hit and Evans has to get moved to the wing after and Montreal has extra centres.

Not only is Evans a reliable bottom 6 centre he’s their top forward on the 10th best PK in the NHL right now.

What is the goal of that deal?

It blocks Dobes next year and reduce our flexibility this summer.

Not sure what it brings to Chicago either.

Plus the Hawks doesn't seems too enthusiastic about hardcore tanking.

it gives us a backup and lets Dobes simmer in the AHL, where he belongs right now.

So you wait until Dobes is 25 before trying him in the backup position? Because that's what this deal is doing.

If you want to let Dobes simmer in the AHL this year, call up Hughes or trade for a rental.

I also don't see why Chicago is doing this.

Chicago gets two young players that need a change. Add in a mid round pick. Mrazek is a vet that helps to insulate our young goalies in case they falter. Allen's role. You want Dobes thrown to the wolves? Bad plan. Hughes is a backup in the AHL. You want to entrust him to be an NHL backup with no insurance? Another bad plan.
