2nd longest tenured Hab after Gallagher, I'd give him 5 years at 2.5M or 3-4 years at 3M. He may get more on the open market but I think he wants to stay with his friends

5 years would be his age 29-33 seasons

Which is perfectly fine. That's still prime time. I would have no problems giving Evans a 4-5 year contract. I would prefer 4, but 5 is OK, too.

Unless Dach proves otherwise, we have ONE NHL capable center under contract for next season.

Of course they are going to invest in the position, unless you believe they are perfectly fine with wrecking another season after this one.
I agree, that's why I was looking at good face-offs gents around 28-30 who could sign for 3-4 years max.

Eller is 35, want to get him back for 1 season? :naughty:

That "glut" of centers is still a ways off, and there's no guarantee all of Beck, Kapanen and Hage will make it. Dvorak will be gone next season. Dach and Newhook may end up being wingers. Signing Evans for four years doesn't mean he cannot be traded away 2-3 years later, should all three of those prospects do hit their potential.

A team can almost never have too much center depth.
If I play devil's advocate and I'm Evans' agents I don't advise on skipping UFA for a 4 years deal, specially if he continues this contract season like he's doing right now. He'll crack the bank on July 1st, and if not he can always re-sign with the Habs.

Dvorak is the guy we should retain on. He's no where near his contract value.

Armia is not far off. He's just at the high end. He's in that $2.75m-$3.5m range.
Retaining at the deadline isn't about making the player worth his cap hit, it's about them fitting on the other team roster cap space.

Having too many centers is not a problem.
Centers can play wing. Wingers can't play center.

Yes, and Dvorak will have interest as a 3rd/4th line guy that can pk. At 50%, he'll be worth his depth player value.

There are teams interested. Toronto fans are talking about him. Minnesota, Dallas, Colorado & Winnipeg will all be interested in adding a 4th line center.

Armia & Savard can both be moved without retaining.

Dvorak can't be moved without retaining.

I definitely try to resign Evans if he wants to stay. Evans and Beck could really give us a solid bottom 6 center line. We need veteran presence at key spots like 3rd line center.

Yup, we need to go into next year looking at having Suzuki, Evans & Beck at center. Dvorak is the guy we move for Beck. What happens with Dach will depend on the rest of his year.

We can afford Evans and he's always been a popular team guy.

You know what, I'm not sure they want to trade Armia. Solid bottom 6 winger and great combo with Evans. I wouldn't be surprise with either a trade at the deadline or an extension for him at this point.

The Habs have until the TDL to have those discussions with Evans' representatives. If he gets moved by the TDL, I think we can assume that Evans contract demands are not close to lining up with the Habs plans. If the two sides are close, I would hope they can come to some middle ground, as Evans is more valuable to this team than the return they are likely to get in a trade. If he does get traded, though, we should also assume he's gone for good. Pending UFAs usually do not re-sign with their old club in the summer after being dealt at the TDL.

As far as Dach is concern, he still has another year on his contract. They will give him all the time they can to get him back on track. His situation is disappointing but the other options are trading him to get nothing in exchange or waive him. In other words, they have nothing to lose by keeping and play him.

What do you do with Kapanen? At the end of the day, we need a legit top center along with Suzuki. Evans, Beck and Kapanen are solid depth at 3-4.

Is it time to see what's out there and move Dach as part of a bigger deal?

Would rather package Evans in a trade for another good Dman.

then, I’d make a trade for Alex Tuch for the third line

He Is more of what we need - size, experience and sandpaper

Since the draft seems a bit thin after the top 6-7 and even more so at the end of the 1st round, I think the late 1sts might be flying around at the trade deadline. I don't think it is far fetched a contender proposes a late 1st for Evans at this point. But you know what, I don't even know if it would be worth it, form Habs POV.

Dach is worth almost nothing right now. Not the time.

And I don't think Kapanen is sure thing for us.

They could get a 1st in 2026 or 2027, a pretty good rebuilding strategy to have 2 1st rounders in many drafts in a row.

Habs already have a Tuch at home, well minus the experience I guess. He should be good to make the 4th line next season, if there is a roster spot for him that is...

If Dach is bad whole season, I just can't see how they decide to simply take another shot in the dark next year. This is the evaluation year and decisions have to be made based on those evaluations. They can't just put this team on hold indefinitely without serious repercussions.

While I agree, there no guarantees on Bech either. I guess it's a nice little problem for the bottom 6.

There is an extra forward in our top 9 with Demidov coming over next season, I don't really care much about his value right now, someone needs to move out for a top line center, and personally I'd rather keep Newhook

If Dach is bad whole season, what will be is value really? A 2nd maybe?
