Why in hell Lou would trade him lol
I’d love Dobson but exactly this. Why would NYI do this? Even if rebuilding Dobson is an integral part of the team going forward.

Potentially only saving grace is if he doesn’t want to sign long term but even then they’ll bring it all the way to the last second before trading him which is like 2 years from now

The only thing that's show his how a good structured team can raise the play of a marginal player. Put him in Mtl right now and he would still be the same player he was when he played with us. If he was a LD, no one would talk about him because he's clearly not better than Matheson,Guhle,Hutson or Xhekaj.
For the most part I agree but I still contend he is better that Barron, Struble, and Savard. Obviously, they can easily find a RD during FA and I think they will. If you had to trade one of the D for him, those are the three I would chose.

Yup. He's a better RD than what we have now no doubt.

With 33 year old, 6 point Fowler getting a 2nd with 38.5% retained, have to think Matheson can get a 1st with 50% retained.

I'd do it. Give the left side to Guhle, Hutson, and Xhekaj, plus Struble. Then in the summer sign a vet RD like Rasmus Anderson (hard to do) or Brandon Montour. In hindsight, would have been nice to have signed Brandon Montour at 7M AAV and traded Matheson this past summer.
The 50% retention on Matheson alone is worth a high 2nd. So Matheson retained should fetch at least a mid 1st or similar value.

I'm torn because if this team had a better D core Math could be useful if he is slotted correctly. He isnt a top 1/2 but is forced to do it and it shows. On a better D squad I'd be more than ok with him as a 5/6. He is NHL caliber but by default being slotted incorrectly every night.

However, they don't have such guys so I think they have to move him. Unless, Hugo spends and restructures this D core big time in the summer.

Guys, this is huge. He’s on Herjavec’s private aircraft right now. 👀

I'd have traded for Podz...
Im curious the internal discourse on Dvorak, Pez & Armia.

At this point, not sure why we'd hesitate to get best returns possible on them and take flyers on players like Podz, at low cost, to see about filling vacant roster spots for next year...

Why? Unlikely he would have made the team out of camp.

Debatable...
But I'd expect KH to move all of Dvorak, Armia & Pez before the deadline if they can... We'll need 1-2 bottom 6 wingers that are cap cheap options to finish out the year & possibly push for roster spots next season...

A 3rd (NJ's) might well have been a reasonable price to take a flyer on Podz for the rest of this year both to fill holes from trading Armia/Dvorak (& Evans if we aren't extending him) and with the intent of seeing if he's a good fit for bottom 6 spot next year

Trocheck would be the perfect veteran 2C for us, if the Rags ever decide to blow it all up, he's very underrated IMO. He has a pretty big contract, but I'd be willing to live with it, he's super durable .

Yes but Trocheck is american and even this off season ehen his NMC clause ends he still has a 12 team no trade list......most realistic chance for Montreal to get a veteran center is Duchene or Gourde as UFA.

NYR likely to be moving Kreider and Zib before Trocheck IMO.
I know I would.

Podz was available in August, not now.
