Primeau needs to go to Laval and call up Dobes.

Primeau not an NHL goalie.

Dobes will get lit up as well. Primeau is like Lindgren... will take years to know. However, our team D sucks so lets not pretend that the young Dobes won't get lit up in NHL games as well.

I prefer to develop Dobes properly. Let him gain momentum in the AHL and Primeau can remain the back-up to Monty. We are not shooting for the playoffs at this stage so development needs to be the #1 priority still.

If you want a better back-up, just trade Primeau and try to get a vet. I don't think rushing Dobes is a good move.

Im dissapointed we couldnt land Jiricek.. we certainly had the assets. Basically we could have gotten him with: Engstrom + Cgy 1st + 3rd, 4th, 5th.. is that really so hard to let go?
He's not worth it. Our team already lacks speed and you want to give up all those assets for a player who is slower than D.Savard? Two CBJ coaches under two CBJ regimes wouldn't use him because NHL pace is too fast for him. Not to mention his entitled attitude.

Fact is we don't know what Dobes will do. We do know Primeau is in year 6 of his "development" and has had zero NHL success. He's 25 and at this point, he is what he is. No harm in bringing up Dobes to see what he can do while sending Primeau down for a little conditioning and prop up his confidence which has to be at an all time low.

If not, need to bring in a veteran backup for Monty and demote or move on from Primeau. He's shown he'll never be anything more than a backup, IF that.

There is some harm to his confidence to come in to a structure that is not very good in spurts right now. I would keep Dobes down in Laval to be their #1 for the full year.. they just need to find an underutilized veteran goalie to bring in and let Primeau go in return.

So, how many of the posters on here complaining about not beating Minnesota's offer for Jiricek are also complaining about what the Habs gave up for Dach and Newhook and their current performance? This would have been another acquisition of that type - - a young, former first round draft pick whose original team has soured on, for a 1st round pick +. In this case, though, the Habs have someone in management down in Laval with direct experience with the player.

This place can be so schizophrenic sometimes.
What do you expect from a place that labels 22-23 year olds busts if they aren't performing to fans expectations and are labeled over the hill at 28-29

If there isn't a player available who isn't a clear upgrade on what the team has, I suspect HuGo stands pat at least until they see what impact Laine can have.

People in New York this weekend told me they'd never seen Jeff Gorton so angry." - Elliotte Friedman

Does this spark trade talks or what??
Think it was more about the officiating in his old building that cost them the game. Habs were full value that game and deserved better outcome. Hard to blame the team, other then Dach's terrible penalty near the end of the game.

What if Waddell said Hutson or no deal? or Reinbacher or Demidov
Waddell wanted picks mainly. And Habs have a ton of them. And Habs picks will be better than Minny’s ones. Especially this year. But Jiricek is no better than most of our young RD.

I know people have already mentioned this but he was angry at the officials. He was actually proud of the way the team performed which is why he was so angry.

They aren't trying to make the playoffs, I know they wanted to be further ahead than they are, but that isn't going to make them knee-jerk into anything.

At most it might make them sell players they might have initially held on to to stay in the mix.

What does it accomplish other than more proof of rushing guys? I would not be appose to having Dobes get some NHL action but only a few games. That would be a development plan, Not because Primeau sucks and we need to call up Dobes ASAP because we want a better back-up during another bottom 10 pick.

That's my point.

Considering that the average amount of years a NHL player plays is 4.5, 22-23 is a reasonable range to move away from a prospect, therefor labeling him a bust in your organization. The exceptions can perform well elsewhere in the league, but the rule is most of the "busts" will have career in other leagues after that.
