No one should, Zegras sucks and I called it.

He got a bunch of empty calorie points when he was the only guy getting force fed minutes and opportunities. The roster got better young talent in, he started having to share that and his production cratered.

He's a glorified Jonathan Drouin.
It would seem, you are bang on...and I don't think Hughes seems like a guy to take on a project of sorts in Zegras. One thing for sure, he is at an all time buy low at this point.

10.7M long term for Laine?
I'd be very surprised. A lot of things will have to go right for him in the next year to make that happen.

Hope you're right about Matheson. He's got to go.

But yeah, lots of variables.
They could have around 15M in cap space next summer.
Like they did last summer, before getting Laine.

Remains to be seen it they'll get the opportunity to spend it.

Was showing the max points for the cap problems (or no problems) conversation.

I personally don't believe there will be cap issues but we will see. I can see a potential problem when Demidov needs the contract after the ELC. If he comes in and shines right away, he could leap from them all in AAV.

I don’t see any major cap problem until Suzuki’s set to extend with us.

Same here but will depend on what Hutson, Demidov, and Reinbacher get. Too early to know

The way they will handle players like Matheson, Savard will be key for me to judge this management. Extension to any of them would be a big red flag.

What do you mean by raise to Laine? He gets 8.7M now, based on his availability in last years, he deserves 3.5M.

I think we need to chill a bit. We can't be rebuilding forever so at some point, they are going to lean more on vets. Question is, is good vets available and if we extend some of our own, what is the term/AAV. Can't overcommit kind of thingy

Sure, Laine may get less. The conversation was will we have cap issues and I was exaggerating it to the max point. Do I think he gets more than what he is paid now? No, but that will depend on what he does when he returns.

Only way I consider Zegras is if Newhook is the prime piece going the other way. Don't hate Newhook but I can see this as a lateral move. Both players are not that physical.

Maybe we add our 2nd rounder? Something like that. That's my max point. No way we are buying into Zegras and giving some of our promising youth. They can drown with him.

Ducks aren't trading Zegras for Newhook+. As flawed as Zegras is, Newhook is significantly worse. I'd be looking at a trade around Newhook for Sharangovich.

Are you saying that Hughes doesn’t consult this site before deciding on a course of action? Then let’s have this site shut down, serves no purpose. 💀
I think every media-related talking head is currently in here chatting away, taking notes for the "narrative" they claim they have the inside scoop(s) on.. once you identify the intelligent posters, what they input/observe is as good as most internal scouts anyways.

Mailloux struggled to defend against OHLers despite his frame while Jiricek looked excellent against adults.

Mailloux is better offensively and is the better skater, but Jiricek's physicality, defensive game, and IQ blows him out of the water.

If Mailloux and Jiricek have similar value because Jiricek "hasn't really progressed", does that mean Reinbacher has even less value since his progression is arguably worse?

I'd think the Jackets would ask for Hage for Jiricek.

Guys go on the Ducks board. Right now Zegras is the best forward on the Ducks and he is not a defensive liability anymore. No fans there wants to trade him. They are saying he has no points because no one score on the multiple pass he give them.

I dont think he is available anymore.

Another guy that was a crime we didn't gut our system to get.

Not excusing McGroarty (because he should be able to force himself into a good spot anyway), but providing some context:

- McGroarty is the youngest guy on the AHL team.
- 8 of the 14 forwards are 25 and up, only 2 are 21 or younger (Koivunen is doing very well though).

Probably would have done better in Laval, but definitely not an option in Montreal.

Don't think giving Yager level value would have been worth it, especially with our young guys pool of wingers.

I was watching the Ducks/Wings game last night and focusing on Zegras just to see where his play was at.
He scored a goal and made some nice plays but he seems allergic to any physical contact.
I wouldn't give anything of value for that guy.

Because you’d have Scheafer, Hutson and Guhle on the left.
I wouldn’t want to have to trade Guhle unless he shows himself to be so brittle that he becomes a high risk of re-injury every season.

He doesn’t have the flashiest stats but he’s effective in his zone, is physical and is a leader — so much so that I’ve heard a pundit say that he’d be captain if not for Suzuki being named.

You need all kinds of players to build a solid core. Getting another LD when that’s the team’s strength, is not desirable. Habs need top 6 players and preferably centers. Let’s hope the Habs’ BPA at their drafting slot, is a C.

Oh, I agree with you.

I was just going off assuming we draft Scheafer, Guhle is less needed and he could be traded eventually.

But we’re not close to being there!
