At least we would be aiming high. Don't want a nother 5/6 D. Plus Matheson would help them now. If not Nemec, then someone comparable.
Beck + Kapanen + Flames 1st

Nemec isn't playing because he sucks or because there are burnt bridges, the Devils have depth on defense because Kovacevic turned into something nobody imagined out of the gate.

The only way the Devils trade Nemec this year is if they get NHL ready cheap rookies that can help their center depth now that Lazar is out with a broken leg.

If that trade is too much for your liking I suggest going after Jiricek instead as he's probably cheaper.

We'll just wait it out, get either of Nemec or Jiricek for cheap.

Seriously think anyone pays that?

Not exactly the same no, but I get your point and we'll just wait it out to see if Nemec plays because he does not suck.
just curious and I won't flame or anything but what would be your counter offer?

How stripped down does my offer have to be to be acceptable.

If nothing happens then we wait it out I guess. If I'm giving that much up then I want a higher end proven prospect. Right now Nemec is a highly valued prospect but unproven. I'm not saying it has to be Nemec. Jiricek or something comparable would work if the price was palatable. I'm ok with giving value but don't think we're ready to overpay just yet.

I wouldn't trade both Kapanen and Beck.

I'd rather keep Beck, so Kapanen and Panthers 1st with your picks back. Or Kapanen with Flames 1st. Might not cut it straight, which is why I'm choosing to be patient. I'd probably add Konyuskov without shedding a tear also.

I'm thinking about Nemec: Would I take the same value for Reinbacher?

I believe I would. Actually here:

Nemec for Reinbacher, straight with conditional picks on Reinbacher's rehab.

Why would NJ want a worse player, at the same position, who also has a major injury?

The only reason I see right now is they're not getting along with Nemec. We're just discussing theoretical value, I'm not bothered with the whys as long as there are no tangible trade rumors out. I think if they trust Reinbacher comes back healthy, that might be a decent swap to consider.

I am quite high on Nemec. From my understanding he is a bit disappointing for NJD, so maybe a situation a la Dach where he could be worth 10-13OA at this stage. Depending where CGY picks end up, it woudl mean CGY 1st + a small add.

He had a great season last year and when he was paired with Seamus Casey at the start of this season he didn't look as good as last year.

A two rookie Defense pairing rarely works. I consider the situation a lot like the Lane/Mailloux pairing. It had moments but adapt both at the same time while on the same pairing is tough.

The only difference is that the Devils have more defensive depth then the Hab's because where they are in their situations.

There have been zero rumblings from the organization thinking he's "disappointing" So unless Nemec comes out someday and vents his frustration with the situation publicly his value is the same it's always been.

If the Devils don't make the playoff's this season after all the moves this offseason the GM probably will be fired. So the team has to balance making the playoffs + develop their rookies which is a bit more harder to do compared to JUST developing the rookies (no offense, Devils were in the same situation a couple years ago)

If Hughes wants to be more competitive in the short tearm he needs to aff veterans that make your team tougher to play against.....like Olivier on the wing ...Pageau at center great on draws....Gudas as RHD.

UFAs to trade at the deadline:

Savard
Dvorak

Armia
Evans
Pezzetta

Am I missing any?
They will probably keep Savard until the end of season and let him hit the market. We need vets at D. If we trade Savard is going to be for another vet.

Good luck trading Dvorak....

Can’t see them not keeping Evans — he’s perfect in his role and the team needs players like him.

No offense taken at all. :) but for me winning is part of development if you don t want to end up like BUF !
Regarding Nemec I don t think NJD should trade him except if they think Casey is the real deal and Hamilton has several years as a top pair Dman in front of him. Having Pesce and Hamilton on the depth chart however will restrict his ice time in the foreseeable future.
