I know there's probably no chance they move him this early, but Nemec would be an unreal get.

How about Desharnais from Vancouver as a stop gap option on the right side?
He’s relatively cheap, right hand shot, can’t seem to get into the lineup in Vancouver, he’s big, physical, blocks shots. He played with Darnell Nurse as the “responsible” part of the defense pairing and was decent. 28 and signed for another year.
S’tun gars de chez nous as well, which never hurts.
Canucks are looking for an offensive minded defenseman. What about something along the lines of:
To Vancouver: Justin Barron
To Montreal: Vincent Desharnais, 2025 2nd round pick.

Not sure i see the point.
Soucy is 30 years old and Sherwood is 29. They are both guys wont are not good enough to remain effective in their mid 30ies. They have maybe 2-3 years left after that it will look like our vets. Soucy has a pretty rough beginning of the season so he might already be at the crossroad it's not rare for guys like him. I'm not the biggest fan of Matheson but if i would trade him for a defensive 4th dman that dman would need to be younger.

Did you watch the playoffs last year? The guy sucks. Not sure he's a NHL player he certainly did not look like one last year. If we try to improve the team let's imrpove it for real. Let's try to grab a 26-28 years old right handed defensive dman who can be a 3rd / 4th dman.
Let's not repeat the mistakes of MB and try to surround young players with the likes of end of career Douglas Murray ad Francis Bouillon. If we need help let's grab some real help not some guys we found at the salvation army. We already have those and we can't wait for them to be gone.

That would make a lot more sense but i doubt Winnipeg trade him they are going for it.
I wouldn't call two a lot. Both a 2C and top 4 RD are acquirable in FA if not trade or internally.
Replacing Evans, Armia and Dvorak isn't hard either.

Bennet, for sure. I like Tanev, and Frederic. Not a lot of choice though. Ekblad isn't signing here, but he'd be exactly what the D core needs to stabilize it.

On Florida's board they say they wouldn't give him more than 4-5 millions. Doesn't mean much but wonder what are his wrats.
The point is stop gap physical play, because none of our younger players are ready for it, or what we have is just not enough. Soucy is just a body moving because of salary cap, I'd rather target someone like Romanov, but beggars can't be choosers and all. He might transform into a Gorges who knows. They both have limited terms, so it somewhat works as far as just plugging holes.
If Vancouver is serious in acquiring a top 4 D and they want Matheson, I'd ask for their 2026 1st to be added.
Matheson & a 3rd for Nemec.
