I'll be fine with "future consideration", he haven't moved this season yet.
You are right, Dvorak hasn't moved this season yet

I know many do not like Zegras , but if this guy is up for cheap is it a bad idea to get him ?
I'm a known Zegras hater, If he's actually cheap then there are worse things we could take a gamble on but I don't think the price will actually be low enough to make it worth doing.

I would have been more open to it if we didn't have Demidov and we still needed to take the gamble on adding high upside puck skills, but I don't think Zegras is a C for us so he's just not really the guy I want to take the big swing on. I just don't think the price will make sense on our end to get him and displace one of Slafkovsky, Laine, Demidov, or Caufield on the wing over the short-medium term.

sorry to burst your bubble but even with Demidov next season , we are not a playoff team at all.

If the 2C situation stabilizes (Dach or someone else), we get another Top4 D (a RD assuming we keep the same other 3) and the bottom 6 FAs are replaced by equal or better pieces, we should be a playoff team.

When Laine comes back, we should have a better idea how this team really is.

Why would a contender trade a guy like Pietrangelo who is still killing it at this age?
Saving money is huge for competing teams. Also could stretch out their competing window for the moment he doesn't do it anymore. Of course I don't think Vegas would swap him for picks. A cheaper contract somewhere could be done though. Similar to Sergachev in Tampa.

That's exactly what Bergevin thought with Petry, Gallagher and co. Don't fall in love with your players is rule number 1, and there's no one better at it than Vegas. They are ruthless.
I don't see any #1 defenseman or multiple cup winner in there. Pietrangelo do not belong in the same group as these guys lmao.

Beyond the quality of player, the situation is similar. He's bound to hit a wall and if they can use that 9 million on another player, that would last longer than 1-2 years, it's a win. Eichel is still very young, Theodore and Hanigin are below 30, etc.

They did the same thing with Marchessault, Stephenson and Smith.

He's not 30, he's 34, 35 in three months.

To MTL: Carson Soucy & Kiefer Sherwood
To VAN: Mike Matheson & Joel Armia.
Even I as the biggest Matheson hater wouldn't do that.

But they wouldn’t do that with a top 2 dman who’s signed reasonably with a couple years left.

Tampa also traded for McDonagh so it’s not the same thing at all.

I don't see Vegas trading him, but do we even have the pieces? If we take EK for example, he costed PIT a lot of assets, so that would likely start with a 1st and Matheson, then don't know if we have the equivalent of a Granlund available.

A few of the UFAs will need to be replaced next off-season. Habs will be even more attrocious with an even younger line-up next year.
If Habs are still in view of a playoff spot near the deadline they should look to add a good expiring contract or 2. They can look at FA's in the off season. If they give up on getting anything for plugs like Armia and Dvorak then adding a vet (cheaply) and benching them makes sense.

Sofffff. Last thing the Habs need. Another coaster.
He is soft and it was one reason why I hesitated to suggest it. If he coasts then no. But then I thought this guy has 2 yes of 60 plus points in his young career which is solidly 2nd line production, can he really be a 20 point guy now ? And do we have too much skill ? What if Anderson and Barron get us Zegras ? If we have too many soft skilled guys worry about it then but right now nobody has established themselves on our 2nd line as far as I'm concerned and the 3rd line wings is open also for me.

60 points is the new 40. Not too scared of that. He's just not that good. I was never a fan.
